    Born in Ohio, you mean?

Probably James J. Jeffries or Luther McCarty.

...yeah....though ezzard was born in georgiq he was raised in ohio.educatd there and entered the military service from cincinnati, started his career and considered it his home. and as an ohioan surely must be the greatest fighter to come out of that state.

Agreed....I have never heard anyone call Joe Frazier a South carolina fighter....He is a Philly boy. Everytime I hear the name cincinnati, I think of Ezzard!

I did love Mancini, but it might be against the law to mention him in the same post as Charles,...so I won't....Oooooopppppppppssssssss

Soose was from a little town right on the PA/OH border called Farrell.

Farrell is real close to Youngstown, Ohio and Soose used to spend a lot of time there. Thats probably why you confuse him with being an Ohio fighter.

He later won a scholarship to Penn State where he became a star amateur boxer and trained under Leo Houck who had been a contender two decades earlier.

He was a good fighter but the war ended his career.

Despite winning a piece of the title he boxed less than four years as a professional.

In retirement he live in Western Pennsylvania and operated a resort in the Poconos.

...surf-bat...with the exception or pryor this is a good list of greats....but the thread says.....best fighter ever....so that limits it to one...and ezzard is the one......nice to see those names, though getting the recognition they deserve.
