DeGale still managed by Frank

Quick mention in Boxing News that "following a hearing James DeGale remains under contract with manager Frank ****** until April 2013"

However it says he can fight for another promoter........as long as Frank gets 25% of his purse :nut

 

25%!

Take his trainers, 10%, promoters cut, training fees, tax etc, what the **** would be the point in him even getting in there.

 

You could ask most boxers that question using the same figures. Thats just how it is.

Dunno if someone knows this or not but if Frank also promotes DeGale then does he take an extra % cut for that as well? So 25% plus whatever he is due as a promoter?

Being a promoter / manager of one fighter is legal here but was made illegal under that Ali act in US. Conflict of interest.

 

It's been said before but a fighter shouldn't have the same individual carrying out the promoter and manager's jobs.

Not really mate. For years the standard BBBofC boxer/ manager contract was 25%, I'm pretty sure most are still pretty much the same.

 

yes. Don King had an extra twist on this where he'd pay the all tax out of the boxers 100%, but then give himself and his son Carl the 33% and 25% tax free based on the original 100%.

 

Frank gave that tit like a million up front. So seems reaosnable to me.

 

I think the 25% is for both Manager and Promoter deal. I remember reading it somewhere.

 

thats a good deal in all fairness, ortiz manager was gettin 20% or something i read.

 

If that figure (25%) has been calculated by a court or tribunal , that will be the total fee De Gale owes Frank in the eyes of the legal system (per fight , under another promotional outfit) , i imagine that will be it and no more , these things are decided on a) whats in the contract 1st and foremost , and b) whats morally right i.e. Franks involvement in the process of De Gale fighting under another banner , pretty comical actually being that it won't even be him dealing with it personally
