Not another bull**** steroid thread, I love it how people see a muscled up guy and claim that it's not 'natural'. Just because you don't have the genetics to put on muscle easily doesn't mean everybody else is the same.
Another deluded fan who has done absolutely research into the prevalence of PEDS or the abysmal standard of boxing drug testing.
The "investigators" were the tabloid journalists involved this hoax of a story, not law enforcement, who btw, named several other athletes in their probe, but not Holyfield, why? Yeah, Holyfield who at the time had been in the sporting industry for a quarter century is going to be dumb enough to order steroids using his REAL NUMBER attached to a fake alias and a fake address atsch INSTEAD of obtaining them via a 3rd party. I'm not saying it's outside the realm of possibility that he ever used steroids. But this particular story has alot of holes in it. BTW, when the tabloid hacks called his # how the hell would they know it's Holyfield? Did he identify himself as Evander Holyfield on a # he's supposed to be using for an undercover alias? :think
Oh look, it's Marion Jones and her steroid dealer: This content is protected Why didn't she obtain the through a third party? Why didn't Shane Mosley obtain them through a third party? Why didn't any of the Balco athletes obtain them through a third party? Because they didnt, and nor did Holyfield - and they got caught out. Don't be so defensive. Maybe, just maybe when they called him up they said 'Hi, is that Evander Holyfield?' and maybe the person on the other end of the phone said 'Yes, speaking'
They've been in boxing since the late 60's/70's. The difference is that by the 90's, it was just getting more and more obvious and public awareness was there that wasn't 20 years before. So, really, they've been in boxing for at least the last 40 years, at the bare minimum. People don't want to hear it, but that's how far back it goes. My timeline is also giving the benefit of the doubt that it took years for steroids to get into boxing, given that they were first used for weightlifting in the Olympics in 1954, and tested by the Nazis in WWII. A U.S. Dr. first invented Dianabol in 1958 after seeing how well the Russians did in 1954 with them.
This. It is painful to read some of these peoples posts of denial. Holyfield who I watched and loved was a roider! I don't like it either, but it's true!
I've seen nothing to suggest that they didn't. atsch On a phone number he's supposed to be using as a fake alias. My initial statement still stands as FACT. No CREDIBLE SOURCE has ever linked Holyfield with steroid use. That's a fact.
okay, but boxing is DIFFERENT than track and field. Erik Morales has probably never eaten a healthy meal in his life, let alone thought about supplements and steroids. Yet he was able to suceed in the 2000s at the most elite level. You don't necessarily need steroids if other intangibles are there in boxing. The superior modern athlete is mostly irrelevant in a sport that relies on punch resistance and killer instinct or natural reflexes. JCC sr's training for fights involved not eating and drinking tequila towards the latter half of his career.
and once again, anecdotal evidence: I worked with all these cuban performers for a while who all smoked, ate whatever they wanted, were old, didn't work out, and they had physiques comparable or better than Gamboas. (They weren't huge, but they were extremely muscular and well developed for lazy asses who couldn't afford anything like steroids or supplements or even healthy diets).
Really? So the fact they were busted because their names all showed up in paperwork found at the BALCO headquarters doesn't suggest that they didn't use third parties?
Holyfield is the biggest steroid user boxing has ever know He had a mr.olympia as his strength and fitness coach - and these ****ers eat roids like sweets
Boxing's different in some regards, but all the same in others. The Olympics is the world's biggest 'roid gathering. Has been for decades. I don't need to tell you the lengths countries go to win medals in them. Boxing is one of the Olympic's premier sports- both for the pride/bragging rights for the country, and the value winning a gold medal gives a fighter in their pro career. It'd be naive to think that given the availability of the steroids and the importance of winning that they weren't there. I have no doubt in my mind that steroids in boxing gained traction mainly in the amateur circuit, for the Olympics, sometime in the 1960's.
