There are a couple of welters that truly have Elite Level Talent...Dulorme and Solomon. But Thurman just looked...eh. Didn't show much of a jab, I thought he even looked tired (gassed) from the 3rd round on'. I thought Maidana would have beat him. in fact, I see him losing to any decent Welter with ability. He did what he was supposed to do versus a ww version of Katsidis (Lora)...A PUNCHING BAG!!!

    He would have KO'd Maidana.

Chino is absolute **** at 147, and has no business there.

Thurman ain't a future star, but he'll probably make for some good action fights for years to come.

His power seems legit, and he's flawed. That's the makings of a fun fighter to watch.

But no, I don't see any star TALENT in him.

    I agree with the TS.

Thurman seems intelligent with good power. But he is lacking in technique, speed, stamina and work rate.

I saw nothing special and i think Maidana would have beaten his ass. WTH with people under rating Maidana? He is tough as nails and a great fighter. Thruman would have been in trouble, i dont see him going far at all. Maybe he will go "far" in an HBO hypejob sense because for some reason they seem to like him alot. Why does HBO have to hype average fighters up? why not hype the real deal fighters in boxing. jeez

I actually can't say that Maidana would've beaten him, as he did look terrible last time at WW. Although, if he acclimated to the weight properly, I doubt Thurman would have been able to beat him.

I do agree that Thurman wasn't too impressive, but then again, that was my first time seeing him. He did counter well enough though and he does seem to have decent power.

"Great" and Maidana don't belong in the same sentence.

He's as crude as they come, he's chinny, and he's a junior welter.

All he has is power, and will, and he doesn't carry that power well at 147.

    Maidana a great fighter.:lol::lol::patsch:patsch

    Only on ESB......

Lora was fighting in slow motion and Thurman did not even look that fast.

    He also didnt look terrible

The perfect word is that he looked AVERAGE

he looked pretty good imo. but he obviously has holes in his game. that is normal for an inexperienced prospect. average? i dont think so. he has great power, decent footwork and defense. he was a little timid because he was facing a big puncher with a good chin, but he got him out of there like an up and comer should.

long story short, i would love to see him fight on HBO again.

lol. sorry, but even though Thurman didnt look like superman, he still would almost murdered Maidana. there is a reason why Maidana pulled out.

He looked decent. For a big puncher he has good ring smarts which makes him more dangerous and unpredictable.

Don't know how anyone could look at Thurman's body of work, to this point, and call him average. Maidana and his camp obviously think this guy isn't average. Maidana could have smoked this "average" prospect and still have had plenty of time to fight on the September card. Yeah right.

He might not turn out to be as elite as he thinks he is, but so far, I can only say I see an intelligent and very exciting young prospect.

Dulorme fits that bill too. That's the fight the matchmakers need to make. Thurman is pretty obviously willing to fight anyone. Is Dulorme?

All that said, I think he will quickly outgrow WW and might not be so impressive against the jmw's. He needs to get at his right weight and "call out" Boo Boo Andrade, who beat him in the Olympic trials.

Agreed, Thurman struck me as having neither the punch of a Dulorme nor the skill of a Solomon.

    Body of work? :blood

Wherein his best career win to date by far is D-level Lora? Against whom he most certainly did look average, at best? Hell, Malignaggi managed to TCOB against Lora without any difficulty or being made to look any poorer for dealing with his style.

(and don't even bring up the 16-0 or couple of 6-0 "unbeaten prospects" Thurman knocked out...those records were more padded than Keira Knightley's bra in Pirates of the Caribbean...Lora was a step up...)

He's fought nobody and done nothing against his low level of opposition other than score a high percentage of knockouts to suggest he has "elite" written anywhere into his destiny.
