Very clever taking a photo of Jack Dempsey probably after a layoff and comparing this photo with the steroid enhanced Holyfield...You'll do anything to tear down Dempsey...Anything ...P4P Dempsey was one of our strongest HW champs in spite of your bull****...Very clever PP, but no cigar.

Steroid enhanced or not Dempsey in noway compares to the size/strength of HW Holyfield. Dempsey is no heavyweight and no he isn't one of the strongest P4P HWs

Be objective Bert, Froch looks bigger than Dempsey, it's no surprise Dempsey was a product of his time, supposedly starved early in his career, but starving makes you weak, time's change

Dempsey was pretty big. He'd be a cruiserweight nowadays but he was obviously plenty big enough to fight heavyweights.
He was slightly smaller than Joe Louis.

Was Dempsey as big as Gregorio Peralta ?
Peralta didn't look small against George Foreman, who people rate as only of the biggest natural heavies.

It's all a really pointless discussion.

And, no, you cannot tell how 'strong' a fighter is by looking as his physique. Massive muscles should mean you are strong, but lack of mass does not mean you are not strong.

Jack would be a cruiserweight today, or maybe with right nutrition a lhw.

Froch was 168 and Dempsey was 190 .. and of course I was talking about the cruiserweight Holyfield .. either you knew that and felt like being a clown or think the concept of 18 pounds to be difficult to grasp .. anyway , the pre-heavyweight Evander .. not the pumped up ( who knows for sure w what version )

Dempsey came out of the mining towns out West and was chiseled down from that type of work environment.

If Holyfield could 'roid up to 218 lbs, then Dempsey could have too...by today's standards.

Surely with todays modern nutrition advances, Dempsey could trim down and take the real money with a 1st round KO of Floyd Mayweather?

Or does modern nutrition only work to increase weight and not decrease it, despite far more time and money being spent on ways to lose weight than ways to put it on?

No because Froch comes into the ring around 180 I believe, he's around the same size and weight as Dempsey

Dempsey could probably get down to 168 and be healthy at the weight, below that and he's seriously weakening himself, although men the same size as Dempsey, 180-195lb men, have drained themselves down to middleweight

If Dempsey wanted to fight at HW he'd be forced to bulk up or be severely outmuscled and outgunned

just like Jerry Quarry rolled through those Big slow and feared heavyweights, Mac Foster,Than Spencer,Earnie Shavers,Ron Lyle, and came close to doing Foreman....Dempsey would have rolled through them all but a lot quicker and impressive, the guys that would trouble Jack would be the movers but Jack still had fast hands and could combo but the trickier guys and survivors would make him look less impressive.

I would bet Jack wrecks havoc on the bigger, slower guys

Since when do Jerry Quarry and Jack Dempsey fight anything alike? Since when are Thad Spencer or Earnie Shavers "big" heavyweights (they are decidedly not)? Since when does a fight being almost made (Foreman) give someone a victory of any sort? And do you really think Quarry of 73 or 74 would have a snowball's chance in hell against Foreman.

Let me help you here for your next Dempsey post. You will want to hit all the important Dempsey bullet points regardless of what it is you are responding to:

    1) Dancer's legs
    2) Hobo jungle threesomes
    3) Use the word "panther" as verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, subject, direct object and indirect object. If you can invent another part of speech, also use it as that.
    4) Only refer to Dempsey as "Toledo Dempsey"

    That should help! Cheers!
