On the undercard, Julio Diaz beat up and kayoed Colombian welterweight journeyman Henry Aurad in his first ring return since the KO loss to Kendall Holt fifteen months ago.

 

It's a bit weird for the ring announcer to bother saying "cero derrotas" when stating a ring record during introductions, isn't it?

It would definitely sound awkward in English.

 

Round 1

Rios doubles his jab and circles out to his left. Rodela dives in with a right to the body and backs out. Rios is landing double jabs and reaching around to slap hooks off Rodela's side, high on the hips and above the buttocks. Rodela is waiting to unload when Rios retracts following a jab or combo, and manages to push the young prospect to the ropes and really bomb away to the body with some wide powerful shots.

Close round, could see scoring for Rodela.

Round 2

Rios works the body from outside, catapulting himself forward with his shots and then jerking away. Left hook to the face by Rios as Rodela opens up with a pair of wide shots. Rodela is getting closer, barely getting ducked as he throws hard uppercuts. Rios is pushed back and nearly pinned on the ropes as Rodela strings together another several uppercuts. Rios jabs and backs up. Rios is walked into a corner and jabs into the gloves. Big attack by Rodela, clapping all over Rios' guard trying to batter it down and then switching to uppercuts to chip away at it from below. Rios flurries but can't move Rodela. Lean inside by Rodela, arms folded up under his chin. Rios jabs with him and gets pushed back to the ropes. Hard right to the body by Rodela. Rios drifts out toward the Tecate logo, away from the ropes, and Rodela catches him with a wide left hook following.

Round 3

Rodela keeps pushing Rios back with loose but spirited clumps of power punches. Big uppercuts break through the guard and graze Rios as he retreats. Wide left hooks keep him from darting off to his right, and looping rights cut off his path the other way. Rios is tagged against the ropes and only barely able to squirm off them before Rodela can build up a head of steam raining shots down on him. Rios is able to spin his way off the ropes and put in a few flurries to the body, taking momentum back but perhaps too late in the round. Rios steps out and jabs.

Round 4

Big left uppercut by Rodela, followed by a left hook. Rios is giving Rodela lots of respect, throwing a few arm punches on the back foot but not daring to stand his ground against the taller and much more physically dominant veteran. Rodela turns his gloves around and catches some Rios jabs on the manufacturer's label. Clinch. Rodela comes forward and gets grabbed and spun to the ropes. Rios is trying to lean on him but lacks the strength to keep a body on him. Rodela shoves out and works the body. Big hard reverberating shots. Rios ducks down into a crouch and sticks his butt out, jabbing up at Rodela. Hooks to the face by Rodela coming forward. BIG LEFT HOOK counter by Rios, in the waning moments of the round after the ten second clap. Rodela's head spun around there, but he took a forward step an instant later before his eyes had rolled back down into position.

Round 5

Big hooks by Rodela moving forward. Rios shuffles away and tries to push his left jab out into Rodela's face as a deterrent. It fails. A few whips around the side by Rios, aiming under Rodela's bent arms. Nothing is slowing Rodela down. Big slapping hooks by Rodela. Rios curls up into a ball and shoves out at Rodela with his left arm, then tries to nail him with a straight right to the face. Rios is on to something, here. When they're too close Rodela doesn't have room to land his wide hooks and uppercuts with any real charge built up. Rios stays inside, pecking the belly with jabs and covering the back of his head while dropping down below the waist. BIG RIGHT CROSS to the jaw by Rios. Rodela just can't get off with the much shorter Rios cleaving so close to him and using lots of movement within a small area.
