Stupid extended commercial break cut into the first half minute of the sixth. Get it together, Telefutura!

    Round 6

Rodela is walking inside, hooking up high, and leaning in against Rodela. BIG hooking frenzy by Rodela, loudly hitting Rios' arms as though clapping chalk erasers together. Rios is staying in his chest, shoving him across the ring. Grazing left hook by Rodela. Clinch.

    57-57

    Round 7

Rios is walking through descending jabs and chopping rights to shoulder up against Rodela. Both hit the body. Rodela gets hooked in the nose a few times upon separating his gloves and winding up on shots, too wide to be thrown on the inside. Right hand over the top by Rios. Uppercut. Big looping rights by Rodela with his back to the ropes, not quite having enough space to get leverage on them and bust free. Wild shots by Rodela, missing. Slicing hooks to the body by Rios, staying close. Looping right by Rodela, missing as Rios steps to the side and DRILLS him in the face with a 1-2.

Massive Rios round, and his first lead on my card since the first. (could reasonably see it being his first of the night)

    10-9 Rios

    67-66

Pretty well indeed. He may suffer for this not being a 6 or 8 rounder, though..

    Round 8

Rios is pushing forward, and Rodela tries to pump in several straight blows at a time to keep from getting trapped on the ropes. Weaker shots from Rodela, pushed out for speed (or what passes for it in his world) and offensive continuity rather than power. Rios is really working some solid accurate short counters to the face with his jetpack jab and 1-2. Rodela is now getting the worst of it on the outside, marking a big change from the first several rounds. Rodela stumbles forward into a few jabs and finally opens up with a big series of ineffective arm flaps as Rios shrinks back to the ropes and slips shots.

    10-9 Rios

    77-75 Rios

    Round 9

Rios pushes Rodela back across the ring and has him covering up and wilting. Nothing coming back from Rodela. Rios keeps pushing forward, his energy seemingly increasing. Rios is in adrenaline overdrive, putting combos together and hammering away in straight lines. Rodela is pushed to the ropes, looking more and more likely to pitch over as Rios whacks some hooks around the sides. BIG body shot by Rios, a right hand just above the belt line and Rodela gives a telltale dip but doesn't go down even as Rios unloads a continuous flurry at his head. It's enough to convince the referee.

    TKO9!!

Crazy thing is, brutal and nearly disastrous as the first half was for him this wasn't even the sternest test of Ronny's career (which as of now is still yet to reach twenty bouts).

On a Solo Boxeo doubleheader back in October, he got a lucky nod (IMO) against Roger "Speedy" Gonzalez:

The other half of that doubleheader? Our selfsame toughie David Rodela giving Luis Ramos Jr. a taste of what he crammed down Rios' gullet tonight, before succumbing to...guess what? A body shot. ;)

I don't know whether to be more encouraged or concerned by Rios' experiences against hardened vets lately.

On the one hand, he's shown a tendency to get dragged into real dust-ups and let rounds get away from him by the fistful.

On the other, these tendencies haven't gotten him stopped (even if there's been an air that it could happen a few times) and he always comes through and closes strong. :think

They could be viewed optimistically as "iron forging iron" - however, they could also be taxing him and adding lots of rings to his trunk...putting him in a spot where the wear and tear (combined with his brawling tendencies) could spell trouble down the line when he steps up to the top...

    Round 1

WW is pushing the leanly sculpted but much smaller KW back with right jabs to the face and slamming lefts down. KW is getting licks in, but can't turn back the tide. WW is forcing him back with the physical force of walking into him as much as with punches. OHH, big southpaw 1-2 by WW. Tripled up on the 1-2!! KW tumbles back and down!! Up. Saved by the bell.

    10-8 WW
