Official 2012 Olympic Boxing Discussion Thread

Both men struggling to find the distance, being forced to lunge in.

 

Boring fight so far. I can see the Korean being a problem because of his height and range...but he's not an entertaining or particularly skilled fighter.

 

That's what I don't like with amateur boxing... Too little time to settle, no jabs, just lunging in with power punches trying to score, creates lots of clinches and holding.

Luckily it's only like that in a few fights.

 

How good is Spence? How does he fight?

Guess I'll find out....

 

Brazilian Carvahlo kinda looks like Maidana

 

I agree the biggest thing that bothers me is that judges basically only score punches socred from the trailing hand. So just like in the last fight with the American vs the French guy, the American was at a huge disadvantage because his best hand was his lead left. Which he scored a lot with the jab and especially the lefthook but (especially in the first round) none of his clean left hand shots scored with the judges. Amateur boxing in theory is about the art of boxing but with scoring the way it is, its more or less turned into the art of karate style line fighting with half jabs designed to set-up the trailing hand.

 

I like the look of this Spence as well

 

Thank god they are getting rid of the stupid scoring system.

 

I was thinking the same thing. Very crude but tough and faster then he looks...

 

True! It's also impossible to get points on body shots.

The Brazilian looks awful, btw.

Spence should take a step back and counter his wild attacks.

 

Spence looks good so far, the brazilian started the round well but looks very crude with wild swings and Spence is countering well. Fights better on the front foot though.

 

I was talking about his face but he is wild and kind of effective with his akwardness
