He was a 154 fighter when they fought. It's not like both were at a comfortable weight.

It's not about the fact that Oscar was bigger. It is that Floyd moved up in weight to fight Oscar after only having two meaningful fights. Oscar is always going to be bigger than Floyd. I just believe the fight is more competitive with both fighters at a comfortable weight. I also didn't give Oscar 5 rounds in that fight. I personally didn't think the fight was that close. So let me ask you this, do you think Floyd will adjust to Oscar? Or will Floyd keep getting hit with the jab and left hook all night? IMO unless De La Hoya pushes Floyd to the ropes, he wouldn't out box Floyd in the center of the ring.

Mate , no offence I disagree look I know Floyd fought a couple A level past their prime but just because your past your prime doesnt mean your not still a great fighter. For example Hopkins has been past his prime for years but he's still been a quality fighter, floyd and Marquez are past their prine but are still great. I make the case that the prime Corrales and prime Castillo that Mayweather fought were A level fighters at the time he fought them. In their prime they were quality fighters and real tough opponents. There has been a lightweight in the last 15 years whose resume is close to Castilo. My next point is I think it's stupid to say a prime Oscar would wreck the same way I think it's stupid to say a prime Floyd would wreck a prime Oscar. I think it would be a close competitive fight which I think Floyd would scrap. Oscar always had problems against speed, tended to get sloppy towards to The later rounds, tended to tire a lot.

What a load of nonsense. Floyd is an ATG and Calzaghe is a very underrated fighter. I hate when people accuse guys like Floyd and Calzaghe of avoiding fights with others without any proof . Just fights between those guys and others didn't happen doesnt mean Floyd and Calzaghe avoided them. First off about Calzaghe. Back in 2002 when Hopkins was at this peak Calzaghe signed a contract to face Hopkins, the fight would have taken place in America and Hopkins would have got 3 million the highest payday of career at point. Hopkins turned down the fight. So it's not Calzaghe they fought as late as they dd. Calzaghe wanted him and agreed to fight a prime Hopkins but Hopkins was the one who didn't want it. Calzaghe didn't run from anybody. Now on to Floyd. To say floyd didn't want to fight the best is nonsense. In December 2009 floyd has signed a contract to face Pacquiao and sent it to Pacquiao/top rank to sign. Pacquiao rejected and turned down the fight because he didn't want to do the random drug testing. Floyd agreed to all of Pacquiao demands, he agreed to let pacquiao step on to the weighing scales first, walk into the ring first and be second to be introduced. The fight was going to be on March 13 2010, everything was agreed to but pacquiao declined because he refused to testing. Floyd was ready to fight but Pacquiao turned it down. Now on to my next point. Mayweather tried to fight Mosley back in 1999 and 2006 it's not Floyds fault Mosley turned him down. It's not Floyds fault that in 2005 when him and cotto were both at top rank bob arum didnt want to make a fight between them because he wanted to build Cotto up more. It's not Floyds fault that he couldn't fight Kostya Tszyu at 140 because Tszyu had a contract with show time and couldn't fight ny HBO fighters such as Floyd and Gatti. It was not floyd fault that at 140 hatton didn't feel ready to fight Floyd and wanted a couple of tune ups in the USA before taking on a big name like Floyd. Floyd and Paul Williams always had the same manager Al Haymon, who isn't going to let his top fighters fight each other, thats why they could never gave fought.

Look, I'm a huge Floyd joyboy, but the fact that he couldn't secure fights with guys like Freitas, Tzyu, Casa, Prime Cotto, and Pac hurts his standing and resume because he was mainly fighting for $$$$ and not legacy.

You can argue until the sun comes up about who was at fault but the simple fact is it hurts his resume when you look back.

    Well Said Turbo.

I think Pistal said it best.

His legacy and career will comeback and look like Calzaghe.

Yes they both beat HOF fighters but they did it past there Prime.
    Its going to hurt him.

His two biggest and best wins when it comes back to it are Corrales and Castillo 2. (I thought he lost the first fight by 2 rounds.

And if he wanted to be truely great like a Ray Leonard or a Pernell Whitaker he needed to test himself against guys in there prime.

I dont know if its his fault or his management.

But like i will state for those at home watching.

Mayweather against your Prime Welterweights does not match up well at all.

As he is a Prime Lightwight I feel.

If you took Floyd from Welterweight and put in a Ring with any of the Past great Welterweights.

I find it hard to pick Floyd. As his competition at Welterweight hasnt been all that much.

:lol::lol: True , Floyd fans also rave on about his skill and rightly so and say that people don't know shitabout boxing if they just want brawls etc.. then in the next sentance blast Wlad for being boring and unskillful.

Agree with Gesta, Mosley and JMM cannot come into consideration when we're talking about Floyd's CV.

    Corralles was a great win.

He really struggled with Castillo and many people thought he lost.

Cotto has never been the same since Marg.

Ricky Hatton, I'm a huge fan, but Ricky wasn't great.

Mosley was shot, hadn't done anything apart from stopping Marg, which was a great win. But he couldn't beat Mora, and he looked awful against Mayorga, and he was losing the fight until he found that last second knockout. That can't be classed as a great win for Floyd.

Marquez is a great fighter, but not at the weight he fought Floyd at.

Oscar at 154, was past his best at 34. Fought Hop in 2004, then had almost 2 years out, till he fought Mayorga in 2006. He then had another full year out before he fought Floyd in 2007. So Oscar had only fought twice in 3 years going into the fight with Floyd. Yes it was at Oscar's weight, but he'd been inactive, and was past his best.

Those are my honest opinions. I think Floyd is a great, great fighter, but his resume isn't all that when broken down and looked at objectively.

Then add to the fact that he's terrified of Manny. If we were in the early 80's now, Floyd would not fight Ray or Tommy.

People who think that Floyd is one of the greatest fighters of all time, or think that he IS the greatest, they need to take a long hard look at themselves.

    Regards, Loudon.

Even Roach said oscar couldn't pull the trigger anymore. he lost that explosiveness he once had. Oscar in his prime was just as fast as floyd, mosley was faster than both of them by a hair

Like I said how could Floyd secure a fight with Tszyu when Tszyu had a showtime contract and couldn't fight any of the hbo fighters such as Floyd, Gatti and Cotto. That was impossible to make. Secondly I haven't heard anybody criticize Floyd for not fighting Casa or Freitas. Floyd has a great resume at 130, and he didnt need to prove anything by fighting either one of them. Hence why he get didnt any criticism. Nobody has an issue with Floyd at 130 and 135. People have an issue with him not fighting everybody at 147.

Mainly because no one started following Mayweather until he went to 147 or the Gatti bout. I've followed Floyd since he turned pro.

Nah, people was following him. I never heard any criticism from hardcore fans about him at 130 and 135. It was only at 147 where he got criticized by some for not fighting everybody.
