How would Mayweather perform against Clottey?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Classic Boxer, Jul 29, 2012.

  1. That high guard defense is pretty tough. How would Mayweather break that defense?

I feel you need to be pretty active to get through that defense or at least pot shot from a distance for the whole fight. I think Mayweather would pot shot his way to a lackluster defense.

You didnt mention how Floyd's bodyjab would come in to play.

Clottey covers up and lets you get off on him...Mayweather would jab his solar-plexis to death..

By the mid rounds Clottey's hands will down by his balls..

Clottey's only losses were to pressure fighters, something FLoyd is not.

Another boring performance from FLoyd(a la FLoyd/Baldomir)!

Floyd would push his left forearm against Clottey's guard and punch with his right hand to the body and throw a quick combo. There would be a lot of body punching in this fight. Especially the jab to the stomach.

Floyd would get the jab to stomach-overhand right combo going. Floyd would also fight him up close and clinch and maneuver his arms the way he wants them

this would be a boring fight. clottey with his high guard while floyd fights on the backfoot worrying about clottey's straight jabs.

Would be a boring fight with May winning a shut out, winning each round clearly with occasional flush punches here and there.

That said, I don't think it'd be quite as boring as some fights we've seen. I honestly reckon May has it in him to ramp his punch output up really high and he'd push the action for the fans.

    I would expect a Baldomir pot-shotting performance.

I think you're looking at this the wrong way mate. Are you assuming that Clottey would be prepared to sit back and force Floyd to come after him?Every time Clottey came forward he's be putting himself in Checkhooksville.
I could actually see this being too easy for Floyd.I'm no Clottey hater but that high guard would mean nothing against Floyd. He'd open him up by about the fourth round but I just don't see Clottey shutting up shop like you suggest. He'd make a move and fall right into the trap and I think that would be the big pattern of the evening.
Only my opinion though, and it's no more or less valid than yours.
