I would favour Ward but give Calzaghe a chance....Calzaghe wouldn't have taken the fight though!

He lost to Pascal by a cut ..Nothing that Pasacl would have saved his ass ..The rematch will just prove this if they ever meet again !

Hey but its doesn't take Chad 10 yrs to make up his mind like Joe !

dont think Ward is going to drop Calzaghe, but he has definitely shown the ability to lock up and outhussle the guy for a SD/close UD. Its touch and go though. At the moment you gotta give the edge to Calzaghe, since we know he had the mental strength to edge out decisions over many years, Andre we arent yet sure about that (though its likely he does have it on the evidence).

Because lets be honest, although Ward has a top set of skills, we dont REALLY know if he has the ability to REMAIN at champ level like Joe did (admittedly Joe only did it at 'minor' champ level, and also lied about a fear of flying so as to avoid the top Americans that would have destroyed him), and we cant really know that without more time passing to help us fully appraise Ward.

All Andre really needs is a year or two more of edging out decisions and that will reassure us watchers that he has that mental strength edge as a champion and can take this Englishman down. Beat Dawson who Joe ran from, in particular, is pretty much the major proof of the pudding.

But essentially this much is true - Calzaghe would never fight Ward till he was 40 and older than him. One cant deny that even though Joe had some good and a few great attributes (fitness and business sense), he was essentially and ALWAYS will be a COWARDZAGHE for pretending he couldnt face international f(l)ights.

btw, 'Italian Dragon' is an appalling name for a boxer. Absolutely terrible.

    Kessler v Dawson?

Kessler is a pretty good opponent even if he wasnt a great champion, but remember he was a natural MW and started at LMW. against Dawson, who is bigger, stronger, Kessler is going to come unstuck. He was already yielding a lot of natural weight to Calzaghe, h'ed be giving up even more to Bad Chad.

Calzaghe will slowly slap the living **** out of Ward.

What a joke thread. What makes anyone think Ward is anywhere near Calzaghe's level? Because he beat a under prepared Carl Froch?

Froch would have lost to Calzaghe 0-12, with possibly a late stoppage. Joe Calzaghe is an ATG, Andre Ward is a 'current champion' big difference between the two.

I think many of you are under estimating the insane work rate of Calzaghe, he is the only person to have beaten Hopkins in the championship rounds. **** that Hopkins was old, bull****. Ya so old he went on to school a Prime Pavlik and beat a close to Prime Pascal.

That being said, this fight would never have happened. Andre Ward would never leave his safe house of Oakland. Ward is scared of flying.

Unprepared? Not having a sufficient boxing IQ is not a valid excuse for losing, lol.

And if Calzaghe is an ATG, that list must stretch around the globe twice. If he is, he's definitely on the back end.

    Calzaghe is an ATG.

He might be borderline, but he's definitely in any ATG List. To deny his place is out right agenda based.

why? he never beat an ATG, and never won a title at a different wieght category.

Ifs he is an ATG then so is Sven Ottke, which is downright ridiculous. Whislt Zaghes is clearly better the crap Ottke, Calzaghe is really a HOFer,since he acheived a record number of defences, granted with the unknown, smallest version of the world title (when he won it). He did nothing beyond that though, except to partially unify before quitting very very fast.
