Thats not how it went. Dawson said lets fight at 168 or a catchweight. Ward chose the easier option.

 

no, dawson originally ducked the peak 168 division to fight in the poor 175 division. now 168 has declined, dawson is suddenley turned up in the 168 division to take easy pickings.

glen johnson is a very good barometer between the divisions - walking punchbag at 168 but elite fighter in the weaker 175 division.

 

Did Dawson's camp actually ASK for it to be at 170? Or is that just some BS you pulled outta your rear. This fight was briefly discussed than signed VERY quickly. I don't recall any notion of it being anywhere other than 168.

 

Ward didn't do anything, Dawson said he would go down to 168 live on HBO before they even start really planning the fight.

He fought Froch in mid December 2011and is scheduled to meet Dawson in early September 2012, unless my math or dates are wrong that looks like just shy of 9 months.

As far as the thread's question? I do give Dre a pass because Dawson called him out and challenged him at 168. It wasn't like Ward said, " I'll fight you only at 168. " 168 was Dawson's idea. Pac fighting Margo and Cotto at catchweights was Roach and Arums idea.
