breaking the rules and wearing an aboriginal flag on a t shirt into the ring, hooper beat the big mouthed yank 13 to 11. good ****....both ways.
Fell asleep last night, any one got a link to the video? Woods did well in his flyweight bout but faded after the first round. Still thought he had it in the bag but thats boxing.
I'm happy Hooper is proud to be Aboriginal and representing Aboriginal people at the olympics but atsch come one Damo!! such a prestige event knowing it could lead to suspensions and protests of his win and what not. best to leave that stuff till later... just take an aboriginal flag with you to the medal ceremony or something. The entire Aboriginal community which includes myself is already proud of him. no need to risk the Olympic sanctions! Also where were the Aus team officials in the whole matter? should they have not stopped him wearing the shirt before it became an issue?
I mean seriously, lighten up people... Did he offend anyone?? did he do anything wrong? I seriously cant see what the problem is.
What is with the Aussie media and whinging about nothing  What about Monk and Darcy posing at a rifle range, the media made out like they killed somebody atsch It's about time the media stop putting all their focus on swimming and put a bit into Boxing. We should have a great team every olympics but the kids of today have no idea it exists.
I don't know how far he'll get in the Olympics but I think he'll make a good pro. Australia may have someone to look for because of his ability and personality. One to watch, maybe?
Stupid rules don't deserve any consideration. Good on him I say. I reckon his next shirt should say "Alan Jones is c?nt!"
Be interesting to know the thoughts of others, competitors and international viewers....to be expecting a competitor to come out representing a country on the worlds greatest sporting stage and use it to make a statement.....wonder if it would be seen as disrespectful? It does send a message that is mixed. He was interviewed earlier and he said he was as proud of his white culture as was he of his aboriginal so it seems at odds to want to use this to make comment about one part of his heritage being more valued than the other. Simply, why would you do it? Aren't we grown up enough to be embracing all cultures that make up this country without having to disregard team unity and olympic codes to make what would now be seen as fairly petty statements about your genetics. He wouldn't be at the peak of his sport representing his country with the support of this nations people and without having the same opportunities as everybody else.....it will be such a pitty for a childish stunt to over shadow his achievements to date and possibly his greatest of his life. That being said it didn't bother me either, but why do it, what for? Now this will be talked about and not his boxing.....the thing that unites everbody and the sole reason he is there is for sporting achievemnet to represent this country. Doesn't make sense, want to make a political statement, become a politician.....go to the olympics and concentrate on being an athlete.
:good 'they' are afraid of political statements at big events. ever see a political banner at the footy or cricket? so they even try and stop these small incidents as they can lead to bigger statements.
