Ever watch Wlad/Haye a 2nd time? Couldn't bring myself to for the longest time.

I tried. I was like "ohhh... a tactical affair... this is a bit more compelling than the first time when I had high hopes for an actual FIGHT... not bad..."

It took forever to buffer on youtube, so I said **** it. Didn't watch the whole thing yet.

I have this inkling notion that it's not as bad as I remember it. I kinda think it might be halfway decent, but I may never see the day when I watch it again in it's entirety.

Ultimately, neither one of them was willing to risk abandoning their safety first approach. One could argue that this was actually pretty smart on both of their behalfs.

Unfortunately, but yes. Against good heavyweights, Haye is too busy protecting his chin to look good. I'd still love to see him fight Povetkin, which I think is about a pick em fight. Chambers would be damn entertaining too. But he had little chance of beating a decent heavyweight puncher because he knows he can't take a good punch and fights defensively because of it.

thats pretty much the way i see it. he correctly picks his opponents and fights very well with that chin.

however, if he is in shape i give him a great shot of evading vitali for 12 rounds and winning a decision.

i think he beats adamek as well. haye does have power and skills.

Yeah, that's the thing. He looked exciting against Chisora, who has no punch to speak of. No risk in exchanging with that dude. Against Wlad he was just waiting for Wlad to overextend himself. Wasn't happening. Should we expect anything better against Vitali? I tend to think not.

Vidic made a really good GIF thread about it recently. (if someone could link).

    Worth a look.

I think Vitali's work rate is too high for him to take that approach.

I agree. If he sits back the way he did against Valuev and Wlad, he's going to lose a lopsided UD. However, he's got to realize that Vitali isn't the puncher that Wlad is. Not to mention, Vitali doesn't do well against defensive fighters. He really could win this fight against creaky old silverback Vitali, but he's going to have to show some cojones. Not exactly his stock & trade.

it was like they were having a defense competition instead of a fight...... like they made a bet about who could be the safest

I've seen it two or three times, believe it or not. But I've subjected myself to far worse re-runs to analyse them. But, really, I didn't think it was a bad watch. I was okay with it. I didn't think it was nearly as difficult to commit to as Volo/Ibragimov.

That thread made no sense when you compared it to everything else on the general forum at the time. It was like finding Judd Hirsch calmly reading the newspaper in the middle of the Gymkata scene where the entire town is insane and wearing masks and half suits with their bare asses hanging out and trying to kill the tourist with pitch forks and the tourist is kicking them while doing gymnastics, and they don't all just attack at once, but let him lay them out one or two at a time.

...My point was, it was an excellent thread. Unfortunately, I just saw an episode of Taxi and half of Gymkata, so that's the first thing that-...never mind. I apologise for this entire comment.
