i think Ali deserves to be there. he took the best shots from cooper, liston, frazier, foreman, lyle, shavers...and half of those fights were past his prime
That's 'cause he would swell up so bad. He had ZERO chin issues, just damage issues. It'd be like Gatti, if Gatti never went down. The difference is, Gatti had been down like 8 times in his career, and hurt A LOT where Chuvalo would just take such a beating and not going down they would have to stop it. Like Lamotta against Robinson, and no one is doubting his chin. About Ali: Ali was visibly shaken multiple times against Frazier, and was put down by Cooper, Frazier, Wepner, Banks, compared to Chuvalo who never touched down against anyone.
you make a good case. i just cant take ali off the list. taking the best from all of those guys and WINNING? i just cant do it
Ali has a case for top 10 Iron chins but top 5 I just can't do it with the amount of iron chins flowing through all weights. He is bottom 10 at best...even look at this guy and all the punchers he fought, and he was not good, at all.... http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=4537&cat=boxer Ali is James Toney level.
Julian Jackson had the type of KO power that completely separated a persons consciousness from their body right when the punch hit them. They would be out cold standing and then fall down like a tree cut at its base. G-Man had great power, but pound for pound, he wasn't more powerful than Jackson, who KO'd/KD much better opposition.
Billy Graham had over hundred fights at welterweight in the fifties and sometimes fought guys who were quite a bit bigger than he was. He was never dropped in any of those fights. He's on this list, no questions asked. :deal
Vitali doesn't make it in top 5 @ HW nevermind all time, hasn't taken enough big shots or shots at all really
tua (down once at the age of 40) mccall (close to 50 and still hasnt been down) ali (i think ali was more of a fast recoverer, he still had an amazing chin) foreman (no need to explain) chuvalo (no need to explain) fulmer (down and out once against robinson) holmes (down 5 times 3 to tyson 1 to shavers only stoped once) toney (down once to roy jones jr in more of a slip) ray robinson (stopped once) hagler (no need to explain) lamotta (no need to explain) mercer (early in his career he was a monster)
he never had a kd to weaver snipes put him on his seat, thats the only questionable one, shavers and tyson apart he only went down once.
Apart from Everyone mentioned, what about Steve Collins. Fought Benn, Kalambay, Eubank, McCAllum, Reggie Johnson
