People hating on Calzaghe like he never accomplished anything. If Ward was to fight Calzaghe in his Prime he would probably lose and lose pretty badly aswell. Were talking about a Well Past prime Calzaghe that gave Kessler a Boxing lesson. Then people always give **** to Calzaghe for the Hopkins win then forgetting a old Joe beat a Version of Hopkins who went on to beat the **** out Pavlik and then Pascal. I feel for Joe as he was a guy that made more money staying in the UK during his Prime as he was the top draw and being part of what was a fairly weak division. Just remember in 2006 when Joe was the 168 Champ it was a pretty good Division Then the Ranking looked like this Joe Calzaghe Champ 1. Mikkel Kessler (He Beat) 2. Anthony Mundine 3. Jeff Lacy (He ended) 4. Markus Beyer 5. Librado Andrade 6. Lucien Bute 7. Carl Froch 8. Allan Green 9. Denis Inkin 10. Peter Manfredo Jr (He Beat) But I was really looking at it and thinking **** guys on the list would have lost. I would even favour Joe Calzaghe against Hopkins in 2006 because of his style but the worst thing of all of this Id favour Calzaghe to beat all the Comp at 175 in 2006 aswell with guys like Jones Jr, Tarver, Dawson, Johnson, Danny Green, Adamek. Ward resume might look awesome from this super 6 Tourny but he would never beat a Prime Joe.
I love how some people just take for granted that Ward will finish out his career undefeated. He's not even close to an ATG in any category yet, he has a long way to go. Start by taking a big fight further than a bicycle ride away from your home.
I agree I mean Calzaghe holds the Title for 10 Years and finds it hard to get fights in that time because guys like Ottke and Beyer avoided him
Well they ended up fighting and Joe fought a pretty good version of Hopkins. And won. Jones was past his best. I will say some fans these days dont look at the big picture like holding a whole Division at bay for 10 years anything special as all they want is huge fights. But like we all seen back in the late 90's and early 00's it was hard getting fights between this or that fighter as to many wanted to much of the Pie or one may have been with Showtime and another with HBO. But all I remember is from 1997 until 2007 Joe Calzaghe ruled 168. Maybe he could have fought Jones Jr or Hopkins earlier. But as we now know fighters like Joe and International Champions make more money in there Home Countries. Ill make a case in Point. When Danny Green fought Drews he pocketed over a Million Dollars for a fight in his home state. When he fought Dominguez in the USA a year and half later I heard he made 100k.
youre exactly right - and you hit the nail on the head - talented fighters can make a lot of $$$ without fighting the best out there and staying in their home countries but the reason calzaghe gets so much **** on boxing boards anywhere is because he was better than the fighters who do this, yet he still didnt have a crack at jones or hopkins when it mattered i dont think he would have beaten either of them, but he was definitely one of the few who could have made it a contest
Ward fights Calzaghes leftovers or fighters who have losses that all date back to Calzaghe. Ward has no wins as good as Eubank, undefeated Kessler, undefeated Lacy, Hopkins etc. He only has one win better than Mitchell and the Froch win is very close to Reid and Woodhall in quality
2 names that hadnt even won a world title before Calzaghe retired at a higher weight. atsch Doylexxx always gets it wrong
Yeah because Dawson beats all these young top fighters Look at Dawsons recent fights. Hopkins 47 Hopkins 46 Diaconu 32 Pascal (he lost) Johnson 40 Tarver 40 Tarver 39 Johnson 39
this. He needs to finish his career before you can judge. LIkely he will pick up one or two defeats because he tends to fight the best he can as a champion, rather than string together nobodies for 10 years.
