i was watching hearns-duran last night and was thinking this. duran almost beat hagler in his fight before this and was completely bludgeoned. what are some other fights where a great was just beat pillar to post when they were at or close to their prime?

Mosley got beat up pretty good when he faced Vernon at a time when many viewed Shane as #1 P4P.

    That one jumps to mind.

James Toney was outclassed at his peak by Roy Jones Jr.
I guess some will say Toney wasn't an ATG but he was regarded as one of the top 2 p4p fighters at the time.

Tyson was pretty much beaten from pillar to post by Douglas. He did have Douglas down heavily though, so it wasn't 100% TOTAL DOMINATION.

BTW I don't think Duran "almost beat Hagler".

DLH-Trinidad. 9-3 style victory where Trinidad got tooled.
Pacquiao-Barrera I. Barrera was the best featherweight in the world after dominating Hamed, but Pacquiao moves up in weight and smashes him.
Foreman-Frazier I comes to mind, as does Foreman/Norton.

And how could I forget, the two biggest ones:

    Griffith-carter
Montgomery-davis (that is right isn't it? I'm playing poker and my memory sometimes deserts me)

Only thing though,Duran wasn't at or near prime against Tommy.Above 147 and 30 years old,he was pure hit or miss.

That fight was very close. Leonard pretty much fought Duran's fight for 15 rounds and still almost pulled it off vs. the more experienced fighter.

I saw this reply coming... Duran was close to prime IMO... when you consider it was a brutal 2nd round KO as well... wow, very impressive!
