DLH was fighting an older Whitaker and he still gave him a tough fight, I scored it for Whitaker anyway, and at one stage I think he weaved about 8 straight punches, the best I ever saw. Also Mayweather was a more competitive fight because PW didn't take it seriously, he was pissing around and clowning way too much. And McGirt decided to brawl with Whitaker, he didn't fight in a style similar to what he usually did.
Word on the street is these two sparred and Floyd made it look like easy work... This was when he was younger.. Floyd UD
Did i read that right... Young floyd beats a prime whitaker.. but prime floyd doesn't.. makes sense to me.. carry on
I believe it was in Florida... and it was only mentioned by Floyd when asked about meeting Pernell and how a fight would go between them. He didn't say he would win.. but alluded to a sparring session when he was teenager.. where some top prospects trained at a camp headed by Duva I believe and whitaker showed up to spar with the guys...Surely.. this means PBF would win.. :rolls eyes: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBaKrk9ZQ7w[/ame] Didn't check the facts above by watching it again.. but that is how I remember it...
Probably around the stage where Pea hardly gave a **** about professional fights, let alone sparring sessions.
It did happen but I think it would be more a case of Whitaker taking it easy in sparring on a tricky teenager who he had 17lbs of weight on. Whitaker would have been past prime and slower at this time too. It's sparring and practice not a fight
I think some here are making this personal. Money is not well liked by many, and if this thread was created after a Pacquiao win and a rematch win/or loss before a possible third fight now, lots would pick Floyd. The great Eddie Futch said Mayweather was the best fighter he saw since Sugar Ray Robinson. He spoke highly of Floyd's technical abilities and his knowledge inside the ring. This means high praise for his IQ. IMO, prime for prime, 12 rounds. It's close buy I'd go with Sweet Pea, split decision. Fight definitely could go the other way.
