I've always imagined him as kind of a bigger, stronger, tougher, more durable and all round better - Rocky Graziano. Your thoughts?
I think he's not bigger, or stronger than Graziano. That said he was likely more durable and certainly a bigger puncher. I fear they might civilize him. Tito Trinidad is my answer.
Honestly i think Ketchal is just one of kind...graziano and trinidad were a bit chinny, from what i've read Ketchal could take a lot as punishment as well as dish it out. He was definitley a brawler and wild like graziano i just think he was a bigger puncher and had a better chin than him. I wish we had more footage of him... The most famous available one is him knocking down jack johnson only to get knocked out seconds later himself but as your well aware Ketchal was a natural middleweight although he did have some light heavyweight bouts, Johnson had to have 20 pounds on him and almost half a foot taller. The other thing is that fight is shady. Ketchal and Johnson were supposedly old friends, maybe it was a fix? Personally what i think happened was Johnson wasn't following the script of 'taking it easy' and when ketchal got his chance he went for it and dropped Johnson. I have no doubt he had the power to do it. johnson got pissed and retaliated.
****, why modernise him. He's durable, athletic and can punch like a mule kicks. I say give him some remblance of head movement so he can roll with the punches and leave him as he is. So my answer he'd be like a nigel benn and would go as far as his chin takes him.
Nigel Benn was going to be my pick - only because of the vicious all guns blazing attack - and I was only really going on his metal approach alone all aggression wanting a tear up every second he's in there etc
Yeah Benn tries the old bob and weave but in reality he was just a brawler with a huge punch. I don't think any trainer in the world would change Ketchel into anything significantly more refined than we saw with Benn
I was thinking a more seasoned Carl Froch - tough, durable and strong as _uck... Ketchel could probably be compared to no end of brawlers, what about a more lean and taller Qawi, just as tough and effective. Who knows, I think Froch 's style is more Ketchel like from what I can figure. But p4p Ketchel would be his superior!
best of his career, by far. He showed the patience that he'd demonstrated against Abraham as well as the finishing skills he'd demonstrated against Taylor. I was there live, best atmosphere I've ever seen.
