    AIBA rules changes:

As of 2013, headgear is being taken away and they're adopting a professional style ten point must system.

Basically what we've already gotten a preview of with the World Series of Boxing.

I think removing headgear is a bad idea as it will cause more cuts. Say you win your first fight but you get a bad cut over your eye caused by a headclash or even a punch, what happens then? Surely you cannot be ready for your next fight with a cut just a few days later?

As for the 10 point must system, I love the idea of it BUT... If people think the Olympic boxing is corrupt just now and that the point system isn't working, they need to step back for a second and realise that the 10 point must system can be misused and close rounds will just be given to home fighters etc etc. A nice concept but will be misused and in turn be more corrupt than the current Amateur system. Changing the system isn't what's needed. Changing the officials is.

    EDIT

However, saying that, yes. I am in favour of the changes. But I expect the controversy to continue.

Yes should have happened years ago. With that said crooked officials will still find away to **** it up.

The current system is shambolic and leads to farces like tonight. Amateur boxing has became a joke where the winner has been decided beforehand, it simply has to change one way or the other and i'm massively in favour of the new rules.

How about we just don't let incompetent brittards host the Olympics?

So now they won't even count the punches, awesome. Whatever score we say happened, happened and you can't even see it to dispute it. Why even bother with having fights being judged, just have the AIBA commissioner go up on stage with and start an auction for each medal.

Bronze at lightweight, bidding will start at $5,000.. Do I hear $6,000? Do I hear $7,000? ....... Sold to the island of Jamaica for $35,000 dollars.

Who's dominating the ****ing Medal counts ******?

    CHINA- AND USA

    Where is 'GB' there ******?

CHINA AND USA are dominating the overall medal counts. Olympics don't care about boxing. That is like a minor part of the Olympics. Wtf does that have to do with London Hosting the overall event?

Well, this quasi-Compubox system is nice in theory but you can surely see how flawed it is..

I read it. It's a good post. The officials were overall ******ed.

Even American Teddy Atlas questioned why Ogogo was given TWO 8 COUNTS.
When he was 100% fine after the first one. Atlas said Ogogo should have one more point because the 2nd 8 count was totally not needed.

I've seen the cuts argument brought up frequently in regards to this and honestly am on the fence there.

They're an inevitable reality in pro boxing and I certainly wouldn't be in favor of adding headgear to the pros to avoid them. They're something that can be lived with. However, where amateurs tend to have less tightness and more sloppiness in their styles and less ability to pivot and parry to counter being clinched, there is a lot more potential for bumping which could mean a much higher occurrence of cuts than we see in the pros.

And yes, winning but suffering a cut whether from an accidental or intentional foul can really throw a spanner in the works of tournament play.

Any extant or imaginable system for boxing can be abused. I agree it's more important to have all the officials in and outside of the ring screened and vetted and preferably with maximum experience (and sterling reputations) at the elite international level like the Worlds and Olympics.
