Reasons why? 1. He is a giant 6'8 2. He is undefeated 3. He can punch 4. He can take a punch Good choice by Wlad for a solid opponent
I agree. Arreola had the opportunity to sign, and passed. One of the biggest complaints I read is that all of Wladimir's opponents are too small. Well, Wach is the 2nd big guy in a row, and he's really big, with what appears to be a very solid chin, and he's undefeated. And yet . . . people still complain. atsch Haters gonna hate.
If Vitali had chosen him, you'd have laughed it off completely, Brother Q. But, it's an okay opponent, considering who doesn't want it. I'm disappointed by Arreola's not wanting it, now that he can get it. He wasn't ready until Volo signed Mormeck, then he was ready and now that Volo's dispatched of his mandatory, he's not going for it? atsch
My only real complaint is that he is untested and hasnt beaten anyone in the top 900 yet. I am a Wach fan but why fight a guy who dosen't deserve it? Anyway it might backfire on Wlad and he might get KO'd. Ya Never know.
Wlad is starting to clean house now on all the young, and undefeated guys. . . FEED WLAD THEM 0'S! FEED HIM!
Fury, Pulev, Povetkin, Price, Mitchell. . . Wilder, Bryant. . . WLAD GONNA FEAST ON THE ENTIRE LOT OF 'EM!
Aye, I agree with you. I think it's a damn good fight. I know for a fact that Wach is going to bring it. We need HW fights like this.
Always hated on Wach but he has surprised me a bit recently. I would have liked for him to be tested before a title fight but he jumped at the opportunity. He was in talks with Vit recently so the Wlad fight comes as a surprise. He seems to have found his power. He is slow but not as slow as some make him out to be. He puts his punches together pretty well when he lets his hands go. A few interesting variables in this fight: Wach's size. Wlad is used to guys ducking underneath him which Wlad reacts to with clinching. Wach wont do that and when Wlad clinches he will look like the smaller man trying to "hang on" as opposed to leaning on and using his weight against his opponent. Wach had a pretty good amatuer career and has never been down as an AM or pro thus far. Being undefeated makes it a bit more attractive also. Wlad on points in what will be a interesting fight.
IF that's so (not official yet, I take it?), then I'm a little glad that was the reason, as it would be a reasonable move. I'd still be a little disappointed, however, as here, as far as I knew he was calling Volo out. And knew he'd be free after Thompson for later this year, so specifically isn't fighting the champion he called out in hopes for getting a fight with Bermane Stiverne-a low interest name-after an eliminator proposal for the WBC belt, knowing Vitali's plans to retire? Shrewd move, not really a proud one, that I thought he'd make. I thought he really wanted a shot at the true champ. :conf Good move though, for his career.
Props to Wach for taking this fight. Regardless of the outcome, he'll benefit tremendously from it experience-wise. Even if he goes the distance, he'll make a statement and his stock should no doubt rise.
Wach is terrible, you can sugar coat it all you like but just by watching him fight you can see he's a level above a journeymen. Only his size and power at a lower level is anything beyond the decidedly average. Yes he's 6'8 but but has terrible footwork, anyone with decent movement would run rings around him. Yes he's undefeated but his best win is a 6th round stoppage against Tye Fields. Fields has been stopped 3 times in the 1st round and once in the 3rd, doesn't really say much about Wach's power when it took him twice as long as anyone to beat an old Fields. Hell even Arreola has a better resume than Wach and his resume sucks. Yes he can punch at least against the journeyman level of opposition he has so far faced. But he is incredibly slow. He's so slow, uncoordinated and cumbersome he makes Frank Bruno look like 60's Muhammad Ali. Wlad will see every punch coming. He can take a punch? He's not really faced anyone that has been proven as a puncher at the top level. We will definitely see if he can take a punch against Wlad because Wlad is so much better than Wach he could close his eyes throw punches blindly in the air and still land 50% on Wach! To be fair Wach is the only fighter with the guts to step up and face the champ. Wlads recent opponents have really been terrible but no decent contenders actually want to fight him. This is not a good match up, this is a big, big mismatch. That is the reality. Can't blame Wlad but you can't try to make it out to be something it clearly isn't.
