@the elite level I'd guess 3 tops. (Depends how much downtime between fights) If he is going to continue the once a year then probably 3.
He could carry on fighting another 2 years, and beat anyone in the 140-147 division pretty easily. Anyone. But after that, lesser fighters would begin catching up with him.
I think he's got a few years in him, depends on how many fighters, he wishes to take within that time period. I think the only real competitive fight out there is with Manny, and even then I think he wins a reasonably wide decision. He would handle every one else with ease. IMHO.
3 fights: May 2013 - Pacquiao December 2013 - Martinez September 2014 - Alvarez Then retires aged 37, 46-0(26)
I get the feeling with TMT now in place and Manny fight out of question, Floyd maybe will only fight 2 more fights and then give more time to TMT and building that up. Plus in the Cotto fight I saw signs of Floyd slowing down and a bit more hittable, he don't want to hang around in the ring too long, he don't seem that type.
10+ More. You guys forgot one big thing . Floyd Mayweather Jr is in the ****ing CHECK-CASHING BUSINESS. He's not in the legacy business. Legacies don't pay the bills. Floyd will fight 10+ fights. He will lose obviously, but so what? Once he lose, it becomes the Tyson Effect, he will sell 25% more PPV for his NEXT FIGHT. Floyd is a great business man. For now, his PPV sells depends on his 'o' but the moment that '0' vanishes, he will just re build himself into a totally different marketable superstar and continue to cash checks. He will probably end up 59-4 or some thing and the richest boxer of all times. Floyd himself said, he don't give a **** about legacies, as long as he continue to make BANK. Which he will, he will continue to fight.
Stupid question. How many fights have left in him, and how many more fights he wants to make are 2 very different things. Nobody can said how many fights he has in him. Look at Bernard Hopkins, when he beat Tito he was already old and the same question people ask. At his 45 he was still dominant and beat younger and stronger fighters. Only time will tell. No nobody can know.
I think realistically he only has 2 more victories in him against elite competition. After that, I think he will be in danger of taking an L
3-4 at most. Voted 4 as I'm expecting a tune-up/Ortiz-like opponent somewhere in between. Would be surprised if he fights more than 4 unless he loses.
