Seriously I am not one to hate on a fighter for being american but is this really the best they could put forward? Ive seen some impressive fighters in this tournament ranging from obviously the Cubans, surprisingly a few italians, a few british prospects and even mini Klitschko's form the Ukraine . . . hell even China have a freaking heavyweight! What is going wrong with the US amateur scene?
we got good fighters, but not all of them go to the Olympics and some just have more of a pro style than amateur. I'm sure if 20 year old Jose Benavidez decided to go to the Olympics instead of going pro 2 years ago, he would have medaled.
I will tell you whats wrong you have guys right now Joe Zanders who along with his wife and pretty much friends and close family have the Amateurs here in California on lock down. whats crazy is they have Sandz boxing club which is their gym, they run the events as well his wife is scoring fights while he is working corners along with their close friend his is married or some how in the know of the same group of people. Joe is the head coach from what I heard from the later part of last year, you cant have a guy in there who is used to cheating the system at home and expect to win medals on that level. We really need to get back control of the officials who are in the amateurs, these guys do some dirty ****, from draw manipulation to having their own fighters in the Blue and Gold tourneys never step foot on a scale.....
The problem is these boxers are being coached for the Pro's and not the amateurs. Most of them have a relative or close friend as a trainer who won't prepare them properly for the Olympics and mainly get in the way of Olympic trainers who try to mold the fighter to when a medal. They all see dollar signs instead of national pride. Ontop of that the I hear the Olympic boxing system itself isn't the greatest.
:rofl The half head twin steals the show!! (Truth be told "He" is the one I look for during a fight) ^Whay say you??
Bashir Abdullah was Boxing USA's head coach but he was not allowed to work directly in the corner because he had cornered a professional fight within a 6 month time span. Really, the USA Boxing system is ran by incompetents now. Somebody who is competent should step in and fix it before the next Olympics. I think Oscar De La Hoya would be an interesting choice; he has the experience of being a gold medal Olympian and he's been around boxing for a long, long time. Plus, he has the kind of political clout that could force the right things to be done. The big failure is actually at the level above the boxers themselves.
And none of the Brits will be worth a **** when/if they turn pro. In five years, Adrien Broner will be a P4Per. Will any British fighter? I doubt it.
