Floyd will be missed, his skills are off the charts, and he's done almost all of it in his career. From being a knockout fighter to defensive specialist to UD master. Plus he has a large personality (love him or hate him) that boxing will miss.
I won't really miss him. I think he'll always be a part of boxing somehow, similar to what ODLH is doing. One thing I admire and recognize is the fact that Floyd has contributed to the sport of boxing tremendously - more than Pacquiao has. TMT, while it hasn't quite taken off yet is at least an attempt to curb the lack of ideal matches being made between GBP and Top Rank. Arum has given out signs that he's very willing to work with TMT. Floyd has to be given credit for this. Then of course there's the massive revenue his pulls in each time he has a fight, not to mention OSDT which obviously is for the greater good. You can fault him all you want for not getting the Pac-Floyd fight for us but consider these things: Who was the first person to contact Arum for the superfight to be made back in '09? It was Floyd. Who was the first to bring up stipulations (potential road blocks)? It was Team Pac, not Floyd. Who set up a specific fight with Pac on May 5th? It was Floyd. Who called Pac on the phone hoping to land a deal? Floyd. Now, who hasn't lifted a finger and each time he's asked about the superfight, tells us, "It's up to my promoter Bob Arum"? If we're giving out a grade for effort, Pac fails big time. Floyd at least passes with a C.
Personality always adds more to fights by hyping them up easily, that's how big money is made. Though I do agree that most hardcore fans want great fights, still the best way to attract casuals(where the real money is) is through attitude/personality. That's exactly why Mayweather vs Pacquiao is the only fight that could break PPV records, you have kings of two worlds in one fight. Pacquiao being the king of excitement and aggression, Mayweather being the king of personality and natural ability. Fact is, fighters like Mayweather and Pacquiao are both ultra rare and needed. As long as you have one to love and another to hate, you know things are fun.
his record and achievments inside the sport aswell as his amazing technical ability will be looked back on fondly when he is gone... to many idiots put him down at the moment
i for one will miss him not fighting the best guys from his generation and not striking while the iron was hot. gonna miss his comeback fight against a lifetime feather weight...his dismantling of the oldest guy ever to win the welterweight title. his 8-1 odds on favorite to beat a young hungry belt holder. he pissed away pretty much the entire 2003-2012 era with crap fights.... but i will hand it to him. if he is worth 40 million for **** fights like he does...had Ali been fighting in this era he would be getting 125 mill a fight for actually taking on his fellow peers
