For those who dont like Jim Lampley..

Yep he was pretty bad during the Khan Garcia fight. Didn't mention any of Garcia punches that landed and was just riding Khan hard. I did use to like his commentating but now I just try to tune it out as he doesn't even try to hide his bias anymore.

 

Lampleys good colour , Jim Watt is rubbish IMO and Larry Merchant is awesome

 

That was a great event, a great fight...

I'm a Lampley fan, I thought he did well that night...

 

Only play by play worse than Lampley is the fool gus johnson.

jim lampley got a pass in my hood. you cant tell who he's rooting for when he commentates in his fight but other then that he cool peoples. he told my boy he looked like thurman after the broner fight.

 

I can't stand Lampley's HBO company man crap, tendency to go nuts over missed punches, being overdramatic, and his countless references to Compubox, as if Compubox means much.

However, he has a great voice for commentary, and has been part of so many classic memorable moments. If he retired, I'd miss him, despite all his negative points.

 

Worded great. He's bias as **** a lot of the time, but when he's not he has a good voice for commentary.

 

Lampley has that golden voice and the way he puts his words together with the excitement in his voice makes for great moments. Like in the Gatti vs Ward fight when Ward was giving Gatti the business and Gatti looked like he had nothing left, the way Lampley said "you can stop it anytime Frank Capichino (sp)" made it somehow more epic. He is good at these sorts of things, but when it goes to calling what happens in the round, like punches landed it is horrible, or at least he has been so for many fights. His nuthugging blinds him from what is actually occurring in the ring, like him overselling what Cotto was doing in the fight with Mayweather, 'bang bang bang to the body', when cotto wasnt landing anything on the ribs. Or when he talked about how Pac was landing shots that werent close to landing, hell even that Pac was landing shots that Bradley was. He didn't call any of Bradley's shots. When he is like this, he is horrible.

 

I like him, but man he is one smirking son of *****. I always feel awkward for whoever's standing next to him.
