Why didn't Jack Dempsey ever fight a black fighter again after John Lester Johnson?

He was an animal but there were tougher birds than he.

    He ducked a Hairy Grebe.

Tommy Loughran never fought a black contender to my knowledge, so which ones do you think he should have fought?

Somtimes a pencil is just a pencil.

I heard Tiger Jack Fox challenged Dempsey to jump in the nearest wormhole for a mediunic battle but Dempsey ducked him. Or chickened him or something. Shame. Trip match that would be.

Yeah as I say the black thing isn't the major issue for me. It's the fact he never fought greb which irks me most now.

It's a legit question, you humps.

And it has a pretty transparent answer.

Because Dempsey was afraid of Langford!!!..thats why he never fought a black man again..he knew agreeing to fight some one from the back boxing orginization would lead to a fight against Langford and Dempsey wanted nothing to do with him...

the greb arguments are laughable. Greb was an agressive fighter by all accounts, and he wss most likely not going to escape dempsey like gibbons or tunney did. Greb never met anyone who hit anywhere near as hard as dempsey and would most likely have been knocked out by jack. There was no massive public demand for the greb-dempsey fight, and nor did any critic seriously believe that greb stood a chance. Dempsey would have been accused of beating a middleweight by the same posters on this forum had he actually fought greb.

Wills is a legitimate criticism, greb is not. And as far as i know, dempsey and lester johnson did fight again, in an exhibition nonetheless.

Wills publicly confronting Dempsey, Rickard pulling him out:

Harry Greb beat Tommy Gibbons, Billy Miske, Bill Brennan who made for valid title challengers to Dempsey. He was certainly better than Carpentier and gave a tougher time to Tunney than Dempsey himself.

Why not him? The newspapers did write about a potential Dempsey-Greb fight and Greb certainly wanted it. Greb was not all aggression either, by all accounts he could do pretty much whatever he wanted in the ring. A middleweight doesn't beat heavyweights by running face first into them.

Seemed like it appeared a legitimate enough contest to be scheduled:

Anyone who dismisses greb as a worthy challenge quite simply has not looked into the era.
