joke thread in a day and age when lots of champs are well managed and protected.

Joes a drop in the ocean but at least he stuck at it for 10 years, which is itself a mark of solid committment unlike his arch enemy Robin Reid, who let himself go.

best and most complete british fighter of recent memory.
im a huge james toney fan, but calzaghe beats him at super middle and light heavyweight.
i say he is the best super middleweight ever. a h2h nightmare. he beats ward too.

you americans need to get a grip. your **** at boxing now, things are changing you bastrds
how can you watch the kessler and jones fights and simply not admire his high level of skill?
    its like poetry in motion.

even manny steward acknowledges calzaghe is a high level fighter, even going as far as saying 'im just glad he's not a heavyweight!'

Another glaring indication that UK boxing as a collective whole is and has been garbage is when Olympic boxing is brought up. Khan won a silver medal didn't he? Well, how's he turned out so far? I rest my case. Keep trying mate, maybe in the next 100 years the UK boxing legacy won't be the joke that it is today....

Are you really patting Joe on the back for beating that Roy Jones? That's pretty pathetic don't you think? That's like patting Terry Norris on the back for beating Leonard, or Tszyu for beating Chavez. At that point Jones was a name ONLY and Calslappy still managed to get dropped. LMFAO, the bromance of an entire nation with this guy is so ****ing funny. Nobody outside the Uk gives a damn about Calslappy or will remember him 20 years from now.

tbh he wont be forgotten, because division pioneers are never forgotten. Is John L Sullivan forgotten? he was a **** boxer who foughts bums all the time and would have got iced by black guys, but his name has stuck around until today. Will the pioneers of early sports ever be forgotten? not really. Harold Abrahams will always be remembered for being an important sprinter even though he would have come last had he raced with the black geezers down the road (that Sullivan ducked lol) instead of the posh white guys he faced. Chariots of Fire, my ass.

Joe Calzaghe certainly never ducked black people like Joke Sullivan and never faced posh whiteys like Abrahams even though he was carefully managed in a similar way. But he will be remembered as the first smw to both gain acclaim and make history at that weight (if you forget Ottke like most people have), even though there will be many SMWs in the future who will be better than him.

I get a kick out of all the "fans" who jump up to defend Joe Calslappy. TS only stated a fact and you guys are all crying on here . . . lol. Joe was a second tier fighter in his prime and will soon be forgotten

I am not disputing that he isnt an ATG. I am just saying that he wont be forgotten. He is the first long term SMW champ, and that counts for something, even if its just careful maanagement, a good head on the shoulders and solid staying power.

ok if someone mentions Ottke, I will shoot them.

He's got one of the fluffiest records of all times ..Funny how people put Eubank up there yet people seem to forget the man was shot when he fought Joe .And those 21 title defenses were some of the weakest defenses in history ..But yeah he is still a hall of famer .
