Why does this female commentator keep calling punches a backhander.

For a 17 year old this Claressa Shields is something else, Sweeping statement I know but she could become one of the best if not the best female boxer we have ever seen I reckon. She can box, she can fight, she punches hard, takes a shot, she's still a baby what happens when she gets her strength.

I like her and hope she wins the gold

whats wrong with saying right cross, left cross, straight right, straight left then of course you got left hook, right hook, uppercut etc depending on what stance you are using. sounds weird this backhand this and that, sounds like tennis shots.

 

Exactly, a backhander is what I give the missus when my dinner isn't cooked after a drinking session.
