Considering Calzaghe fought as a champion from 1997 til 2008, his resume absolutely sucks. Not even a diehard fanatic can argue with that. He had 11 full years to fight tough comp and only managed to squeeze a couple in before taking a fight with a corpse to end his career. His comp between 1997 and 2006 was nothing short of disgusting.

    Dire.

  5. Brian, if you are from the UK, why do you insist on using the word "resume"? It´s C.V. you pretentious dolt. :verysad:dead:-:)barf:patsch

when its all said and done, he stepped into the ring 46 times. 46 failed to beat him.

though 43 were bums or overated,

its just to bad popkins was #1@ light heavy.

just a shame a young joe calzaghe isnt around anymore to fight some of these young lions like ward.

i'd doubt that a young joe would win a super 6 tornament, but he proved a few people wrong about 3 times.

i like calzaghe, i like that chilling out, had a nice career, now just on that coke. his a kool geezer.

You've you said yourself that Roy was a shell, so who cares that Joe beat him?

Glen Johnson knocked Roy cold, more than four years before Joe fought him.

Glen doesn't get a lot of credit, so why should Joe?

Have you seen the video I posted up 3/4 pages back? Joe dismissed Roy in 2008 before they fought.

Also in 2006, I'm sure you're aware of this comment from Joe "Roy jones was a hell of a fighter man! But he's not the fighter he once was. He's been knocked out twice and a fight against him now would be pointless." Those are Joe's own words.

Just a year later, Danny Green knocked him out in a round.

So, taking all of the above into consideration, Joe deserves zero credit, and the win is worthless.

He stayed away from Roy when Roy was prime. He had the opportunity to fight in the U.S. and up at 175, but he wasn't interested.

He was happy at home at 168.

Apparently he was afraid of flying?

But when Roy was nearly 40, he got on the plane.

At the end of the day, Danny Williams can say he knocked out Mike Tyson can't he?

Things need to be put into perspective.

    Regards, Loudon.

Its clear that once jones had stopped juicing and gone back down to 175, roys reflexes had diminished a little, exposing roys disgraceful glass jaw. tarver and jones took advantage of that by knocking him cold.

the difference with calzaghe and the reason that so many respected people in the fight game were tipping jones to beat calzaghe was because they knew that calzaghe's hands were totally shot and that he didn't have any knock out power left at all. they all knew that calzaghe v jones was a match up that would be decided by boxing ability alone. by the time the calzaghe fight came around, jones had 3 good wins under his belt and fully adapted back to the weight, was fighting on home territory, with american officials, at a weight calzaghe had only fought at once before.

the omens looked great for roy, the only problem was that roy was fighting an elite fighter and was no longer juicing - the gulf in class was huge. after roys illegal forearm in the 1st round, calzaghe came roaring back and 'lacyied jones in his own back yard. the beatdown was the 1st sustained beatdown of roys career, i think any neutral observer would agree that even a glass handed calzaghe could have stopped jones if he had chosen too, but out of respect for roy, and combined with the fact that calzaghe knew it would be his last fight, calzaghe spared jones and decided to enjoy himself through rounds 8-12 and put on a master class of skills and charisma for the paying public.

when all is done, people remember calzghe for his ability to fight in adveristy, to be able to adapt styles mid-fight, to be able to go toe to toe without holding despite notorious hand problems.

when all is done, people will remember roy jones for being a drug cheat, for folding like a lawn chair when faced with adversity, for having no plan B and not being able to adapt when plan A didn't work, for having an horrific glass jaw, for never beating a linear champion his whole career.

One of ESB's biggest rivalries and greatest showdowns to ever been threaded.

This rematch is PPV, Box Office, HD 1080p, Thread Sticky worthy and warrants its own thread.

In the blue corner, with an impressive VCash total of 1000, hailing out of USA East Side VIP..................... Imperiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllll....ONE

And in the red corner, with a disgraceful VCash total of 75, Chinchecking veteran, hoping to avenge his defeat, hailing out of Sheffield England................Jooooooooooooeeeeeeeeee......Baaxxxeer

Both you folks sign the dotted line and we can start purse bids.

Before any signatures and punches are thrown. Verbal punches and smilies have already started between the two veterans with ChinChecking disgraceful VCash holding defeated combatant Joe.Boxer making the first move:-

Imperial1 is still keeping his cool and is looking to let his fists do the talking, but no one is ruling out a pre fight thrash talk press conference.
