I enjoy seeing the Ali lovers take it in threads like these. Ali fans think that none of Ali's losses even count, because they were all post-exile. Vitali came back from three years and kicked ass.

Ali had many, many BORING fights. Yes, he had some stellar highlights, but there were lots of boring, lazy, controversial efforts. You didn't see any other great heavys losing to a guy with a 6-0-1 record did you? And then wrestle his way to victory in the rematch. Ali should really have about 8 or 9 losses on his record, and that would give us a better assessment of what he really was. Don't get me wrong, the guy was formidable as hell, but far from unbeatable.

All fighters had boring fights. But the fact is Ali was involved in 2 of the top 5 most exciting fights of all time. Also Sugar Ray Robinson lost to Memo Ayon who is 16-8-1.

It is good in some ways but records are deceiving. Some fighters are better than their record show while others are the opposite.

The great thing is this, only 3 time lineal champion, beat more ATG fighters than anyone. Had a great chin, great stamina, great athleticism. There are facts and they cant be disputed because they are true.
What made him great outside the ring was the fact that he stood up for what he believed in and showed great courage and integrity.
He told the government to "take him to jail" because he wouldn't fight in a shitty Vietnam war and kill innocent people.
Also the various charities he has helped every year and the example he is for people. Ali said some silly things but most of the time he was joking hence how he laughed afterwards. He didnt really wrestle and alligator you know? It's called "joking around." He was and is a great man.

would have, should have could have. Lets not talk abot what he should have ok? Talk about what he does have.
Vitali? HAHA! Yeah Vitali came back into the worst division ever and armpunched his way to boring tenth round ref stoppages against such greats as Fat Sam Peter, bum Sosnowski,Fat Solis,Juan Carlos Gomez.

Ali still beat the most ATGs and still was the only 3 time lineal champ.

What exactly is everybody's expectations in heavyweight fighters?

It seems that if they are not agile like the welterweights, they are overrated. Somuch so that the Klitscho's are views as overrated because they are lumbering relative to probably the welters.

It is the heavyweights!!! The fight is on how strong your punch, not on how good you look relative to SRL. Although Ali is close to that!

Vitali came back after 3 years and still fought like a coward..

    Vitali has QUIT in him...

Ali didn't let a broken jaw stop him...

    Chris Byrd made Vitali QUIT.

There were fundamentally better fighters yes but they didnt have the chin or the stamina or other skills.
Ali can be beaten but not by many. Not overrated. In the ring he was mostly great and out of the ring he was mostly great.

I am just glad that other boxing fans have the same opinion, even if he is the Goat he is still highly over rated by the boxing public.. Why do you say he should have 8 or 9 losses? I know he got a Norton gift decision, and had his trainer cheat when Cooper had him in trouble by cutting his glove to stall time for Ali to recover..
