You're making this more difficult than it needs to be. The Roy Jones who campaigned at 160 was green enough that a lot of guys at 160 could have troubled Roy Jones.

    The question was, who?

Check out SRR's record how many elite black fighters did he fight, apart from a light punching Kid Gavilan, a 2nd tier Ralph Tiger Jones, a not so great Randy Turpin. After he fought a tough black guy in a welter title fight in which SRR, was knocked down he never crossed gloves with the true black killers like Jimmy Edgar, Charley Burley, Holman Williams, Artie Towne, bert Lytell, Lloyd Marshall, and Eddie Booker. Would Sugar have been so sweet if he had fought these guys, hmmmmmm!

Turpin. Maybe a spoiler like Joey Archer. How good was Ralph Tiger Jones?

How about Henry Armstrong, Holly Mims, Jose Basora, George Costner, Ray Barnes, Aaron Little Tiger Wade, Young Gene Buffalo, Tommy Bell, or California Jackie Wilson?

    Its possible you were joking...

Ray definitely fought his share of black guys. I've actually heard that criticism before though.

Noone would I favour over roy from robinson's resume.

I think robinson himself is a slightl favourite over jones but that's assuming a same day weigh in otherwise the fight would never happen.

I think that criticism is only plausible if you assume that Murderers Row (who were all middleweight and above when Ray was at 147) were the only decent black fighters out there. Which they.clearly weren't.

True. If i recall correctly Roy had a COUPLE of 154 lb bouts in which I'm certain he could have made 160 same day weigh in.

But still, I favour Ray against a very green 154 lb Roy jones

Given a same day weigh in it's hard to tell how difficult it'd be for roy to make the weight but if he did I can't see him beating Robinson.

Given 24 hour to hydrate he'd hold a big advantage over Sugar in terms of size and that makes it much harder to call. I mean Ray didn't even bulk up for maxim so he'd be looking at the same size disparity but against a much more skilled opponent. Roy has a much better chance here, not sure if i'd favour him or not but if he's ever beating Ray it's with 24 hour rehydration.

Robinson boxed circles around Maxim. That outcome was a fluke.

Roy was a big middle and the guy that starched Tate and beat Hopkins was not 'green' in the traditional sense of the word IMO. He was a phenom. Wouldn't feel comfortable picking a same day weigh in 160lbet against him, not even a bulldozer tight at the weight like Lamotta.

LaMotta, Fulmer, and Turpin beat Jones. Maxim too.

In a one-off scenario I can see why Roy would be favored against all of them, but if he fights them all like Ray did, he'll pick up losses along the way.
