As a Floyd fan, I even have to admit that he has abysmal footwork

He can be a much better fighter if he trained his footwork, possibly good enough to beat the best past WW's etc. Now ofc he cannot. He has absolutely abysmal footwork, a lack of lateral movement. But he is the best fighter of this generation by far and top 15 atg. He could be much better.

Hatton has better footwork than this man

    Still

A new low even by your standards. And that's really saying something.

early in his career his footwork was great. i thought he had great footwork in the corrales and castillo fights, im sure there are a lot of other examples too. but you're right, lately he's been standing his ground and fighting in the pocket a lot more.

No it isn't. His lack of lateral movement, and footwork in the center of the ring can be drastically improved. I see Hatton with better footwork.

He backs up in straight lines very often and doesn't move laterally too much nowadays, but he is very comfortable fighting off the ropes, picking off shots and countering, it suits his style, being 'caught' on the ropes doesn't seem to bother him too much, like Toney.

Hatton squares up more than a line dancer. Floyds footwork is close to perfect. Again.

Not being lateral happy became apart of his style as he developed his shoulder rolling and counterpunching style

The footwork he uses works for him. He doesnt use excessive foot movement because he doesnt have to. Floyd could also throw more combos, but 99 percent of the time he doesnt have to take the risk of throwing more than one punch at a time because hes dominating the fight anyways. If you knew anything about boxing you would know that two of the most important things to do are to keep calm at all times, and to limit any wasted movement or effort in order to maintain stamina.

what amazed me about him on that show was his bad posture, slumped over.

His footwork was phenomenal at the low weights, against Baldomir, and won him the fight easy easy easy against Marquez, simply not in range with Marquez short attacks or far enough away to see them coming.

He elects not to move very much, but he can run all night if he wants to. His footwork is extremely coordinated with his upper body movement, but not necessarily entirely traditional. He hasn't shown evidence of an ability to move at 154 at all, though.

    You think that because you're a ******.

Can we have a ban please?

Mayweather has what I would call educated footwork. It's similar to Andre Ward's. Short and accurate steps, used to dictate distance and tempo. No wasted movement means no wasted energy as a result. They move when they have to, or when they want to. Most fighters often move just for the sake of moving.

You could have a detailed explanation if you want, but I think I'd be flogging a dead horse.
