I was just watching The Fighter again and I was wondering about this fight, in the movie it makes this fight out to be a huge turning point in his career and that Ward was meant to be a tough fight for Sanchez to continue his development, is this true and was Sanchez really a major prospect at one point?
Yes Sanchez was a hopeful at the time... I was amazed that Micky pulled that one out. his fight with Shay Neary is a good match as well.
Yeah I seen the Neary fight, its a great scrap. I just watched highlights of the Sanchez fight and it was incredibe, must have been amazing to watch live. What ever became of Sanchez after that?
He got a shot against Phillips shortly after that was sparked I think in the 2nd round maybe the first round and his career went to **** from there I dont really remember I could be wrong
I have several of his older fights on VHS back when he was on Tuesday night fights, and ESPN, Back then Mickey had both hands his right hand and his left hand, No doubt I **** you not he was a ****ing animal back then with quick speed and good power. Once he injured that right hand it became all about them left hooks to the body, I believe he got that hand fixed just after the Augustus fight, I wonder how his career would have done had he got the surgery done on that hand years earlier. Micky Ward there are few like him
Great fighter, **** back in those days we had some Irish warriors, Ward, and the Pocket Rocket you saw them all the time on Tuesday night fights.
Sanchez was looking at an HBO deal. This was supposed to be his coming out moment when he beat a tough, albeit limited fighter with a decent name. (I absolutely love fights like these: seeing if a young kid has it or if the gatekeeper can keep his place.)
