I wasn't watching Boxing at the time but what was the consensus on the fight? Who was the favorite? Did people expect (Fans incl) expect Oscar to lose by stoppage? I hardly ever see this fight talked about on ESB.
oscar was dehydrated at 147 and people saw this during training camp. even valero whooped oscar much easier than pac did in sparring. people knew pac would win but was pulling for an oscar win as it was oscar's last effort as a boxer.

DLH was the favourite due to his size advantage and power. However the bookies etc. Clearly didn't factor in that Oscar was fighting at 147 for the first time in 10 years and was the definition of weight drained. This fight holds no relavence in the history of the sport or either fighters resume. This was just Pac stepping up in weight and beating up on an old weight drained man
Oscar was big favorite going into the fight. On reputation. Pac did great, but there was a reason why with DLH being badly drained.
Shite. The forum was overwhelmed with people picking Oscar. He was seen as to big for Pac. The weight drain thing didn't start to make people wander in earnest until Oscar's on the night number came in.
Boxing odds don't mean **** in telling who should win the fight. Casinos set them to make money. De La Hoya is one of the most popular boxers in the sport's history. This means that a lot of money was going to be placed on him. Boxing fans tend to be romantics and we often can't see that a boxer is not as good as he used to be. If De La Hoya or Tyson were to make comebacks fighting for a championship. Both would recive a lot of wagers, and not because it would be a sound investment. The fact is De La Hoya was greedy. He saw that Pacquiao was going to be a big name and wanted to have him for Golden Boy who for a very short time had some promational rights to him. He was also the fight that he could make the most money with. The fight was a bussnes decision. People talk about the possible funny Bussness in De La Hoya Hopkins. What they should talk about is the funny busssness in De La Hoya/Pacquiao. I'm not saying he threw the fight (I don't think he did in the Hopkins fight either). However De La Hoya the promoter cashed out De La Hoya the boxer.
What happened was floyd had refused the oscar rematch. Manny was at the time starting to become a star though not to the level he became after. Oscar went to arum and said if manny goes up 2 weight classes i will go down 1. Manny agreed and the fight was made. Oscar thought he would be way to big and would cut arums nuts off. Thats not how it played out.
larry merchant was the instigator of this fight. and this fight was the last tme i bet against pac. i promised not to bet against him ever again even against floyd. oscar was at least 2-1 favorite and pac was supposed to get knocked-out by a mere oscar jab.
