Top 10, arguably top 5 heavyweight. Pound for pound though, he's nowhere near the top 15, which is what people usually tend to mean when they say ATG.
No sir , the HWs always get a separate ranking. There is direct lineage alive in this division unlike others that lives right through history. Belts have not destroyed that and the real champs can easily be traced. Plus the top HWs can beat all the midgets anyways.
I would think Norton,Lyle,Shavers,Foreman,Ali,Holmes,Prime Tyson,Prime Holyfield,Dempsey,Joe Louis all beat Lennox Lewis. The guy was KO'd by 2 average fighters really. That hurts his standings.
Lewis either ducked or waited until all the best were old and washed up. He did it time and time again.
Teddy Atlas: "I dont rate him as high as everybody else does.He was a good right hand puncher who learned how to use his psysicality well,But great fighters dont get knocked out by guys like Rahman & Mccall. Ali didnt.Frazier didnt.Dempsey didnt.Louis didnt.Liston didnt. They lost yes,But not to those calibre guys. Whats his signature win? He didnt have that win that brought out the best in him.He struggled with Ray Mercer. I know he made the HOF,But they dont keep the highest standards,So I cant call him a great fighter. Thats no knock,Lennox was very good,But its not called the Hall of very good. Its supposed to be special and he wasnt special. He was one dimensional. Lewis knew how to keep distance and make that work for him because of his size. He came around at a very fortunate time where he was the biggest guy.He had god given gifts and knew how to use them but Holyfield was the better fighter.Lewis was massive compared to Holyfield,But Holyfield as massive in areas where Lewis never got tested. He could have done more,He could have been bolder,he could have used his jab as a weapon instead of a range finder for the big right. We will never know if he could have developed in those areas,What we know is that he didnt. There wasnt a lot of creativity in his fighting,He could have developed but my feeling is no he couldnt have." I pretty much agree with Teddy.
I hate when IDIOTS say that Ali was down on the cards to foreman (6/1 no less rofl) This shows somebody who has clearly never seen the fight , only watched documentaries that foreman was killing him, Ali was head through that fight and its not how the movies make out. You have never seen the fight before that is a fact, there is no other explanation. Foremans declined was even commentated right through it die noob
Yup.It's clear from his resume and Ruiz being box office gold that he never fought anyone of the calibre of Ruiz and Byrd.
Well then why was he crying about Bowe for ? Once Bowe and Evander fought everyone wanted another fight it was so good. No one cared for the Lennox fight but he bitched and whined then did the exact same thing. And unlike Ruiz or Byrd , Lennox did not even have to fight for his garbage riddled WBC belt- they just gave it to him !
Are you for real? Why was the belt vacated?... Because Bowe gave it up because he was being forced to face Lewis.atsch Lewis was the mandatory and had every right to force the fight. Why didn't Bowe give him step aside money and a guarantee of the next defence? Bowe was a great talent but he'll only ever be remembered in 30 years as the guy who ducked Lewis.
Not saying Lewis was a bad fighter,he was very talented but those losses linger in my mind. I have respect for every champion in all honesty. Lewis was the best of his generation but not top ten ATG for me. Top 30 yes. Top 25 most likely.
exactly the 3 i looked at and thought wtf?none were anywhere near as good as lewis.all others above i would agree with though
