I think I understand where you're comin' from my brother, but to me it just seems like Merchant don't like a damn thing about any fight here lately and just tries to bring the whole thing down.

Larry Merchant unlike Lampley the broadcaster, not the ESB member, and Max Kellerman, is a HOFmer. Do you realize that s***? Roy Jones may know a lot of inside of boxing and have his own insight but for how long has Larry been in there. Nobody even remembers???

 

Yes and so is Joe Cortez. I guess no one should ever complain about his reffing.

A lot of refs are HOF like Robert Byrd, husband of judge Adelayde Byrd, but a sports journalist is something different like, for instance, Sowtime commentator Al Bernstein but even he is just an International Boxing HOF... Larry has done a whole lot more than just commenting fights, he is in there to firestart the fights people want to see and he's been called names and insulted ... Nick Charles, Barry Thompkins, even Sugar Ray were great commentators but no one like Howard Cosell and Larry Merchant, I'm sorry...

 

Great.. we need guys like him.. He aint just some groupie, he tells it like it is. Sure hes an old somewhat angry old man st this point, but hes given us so many memorable nights.. I love hearing him call fights, and would love to see him more frequently..

 

For sure. His encyclopedic boxing knowledge should be respected by boxing fans

Merchant has been following the sport for years, He was at ringside for Ali sonny Liston rematch. Hes knows more about boxing than plenty here and has seen much more.
Boxing has been his life, much respect from me to him.

if ray robinson or willie pep were around today...merchant would **** on them too. it's very apparent he doesn't know what he's seeing. get someone in there that does.

u want rock 'em - sock 'em robots? ward/dawson is not for u. it's going to be scientific. it's like foreman used to say..."it's like jazz...the better it gets, the less ppl appreciate it." i love jazz....and i also love highly technical chess matches with the subtle things that average fans have no clue about. i'm a purest. i love boxing on the highest levels.

 

for a guy who's been watching for so long....it's apparent, he doesn't know **** about boxing. floyd had it right.
