Fitzsimmons was one of the good heavyweight champions.

Then again, how many linear champions have there been ? 35 ? 40 ?
A top 15 and a worst 15 would almost meet in the middle, so being "tenth worst" probably isn't that bad.

Besides, WORLD heavyweight champion is pretty good title, in the old days it was anyway. Even being last in that club should be an honour.

That was kind of my point regarding the thread ... however, since this is all fun, what the hell ... BTW, I have no idea if SQ and SLJ are the same guy ... I've just seen it mentioned by many posters time and again so I'm just teasing ... in addition, if he feels like it , why not ?

Jack Johnson makes my top 10, actually.

I will reluctantly remove Jeffries to include Willard. Big Jim did beat the best up to 1905, however lilliputian they may have been.

Tommy Burns is a vastly underrated fighter. Why is he so bad? He won the title legit. Defended it as best he could AND LET A BLACK MAN fight for it - Jack Johnson - losing heroically. I don't see anything awful about that.

'94 Foreman deserved the title. Granted the Savarese fight was a fraud but the dude was 45 - what do you expect?

Bob Fitzsimmons was a 156ish fighter who knocked out the heavyweight champion and fought and beat some freakishly large heavyweight contenders. Don't see why he is in this list at all.

Really!? I think Stanley would have flattened him. Imagine Ketchel the heavyweight champion? Awesome

Yeah but Liston didn't really have the chance to be a good champion. He had been ducked for so long he was past prime when he won it then he ran straight into a prime Muhammad Ali.

    Pachilles told me,,,,,,,

Muhammad Ali did absolutely nothing between,
    March 23, 1967 and October 25, 1970

He was recognized as a 'Paper Champion'
