This isn't about punching P4P my friend, this about technical skill set... To me the answer is Pea.. SRL MIGHT have won if they fought, sure, but based SOLEY on technical ability...I have Pea all the way.

One thing to remember is that you can reasonably argue Whitaker's case for having been 43-0-0-1 right up until the Trinidad fight. Now if you were to accept that, it would mean he'd have beaten Julio Cesar Chavez, Oscar De La Hoya, Azumah Nelson and Jose Luis Ramirez twice.

On the other hand, you could, if bring ungenerous say he was a slightly less impressive 41-2 if you thunk the de la Hoya and Rivera decisions went against him.

Slightly less impressive, yes, although in his prime he still looks about the best a fighter can be.

Whitaker is at his peak against Haugen, Ramirez II and the Nelson fight.

His skill level package; boxing ability, punch volume, speed, defense, etc, is as good as any fighter in history in these three fights.

During the Nelson fight he was actually throwing punches, effectively, while moving backwards. I do recall him moving backwards in a straight line and shooting three jolting jabs through Nelson's guard.

You've probably heard the Bert Sugar myth that Robinson knocked out Fullmer while going backwards. Robinson actually stopped while delivering his left hook that KO'd Fullmer. He wasn't moving backwards at the same time.
