I dunno about the fullmer references. He always seems fairly in control in the fights I watch of his. Maybe he doesn't throw his shots textbook but he was very effective both at range and inclose.

Giardello would be a much better shout in my opinion.

Marijan Benes far more slippery than anyone mentioned thus far.

We're talking 'technical refinement from an orthodox point to view', if 'least skilled' sounds 'cruel' (that probably wouldn't fit in the title). C'mon... If we were truly talking about who's the 'bummest' you think Saddler would be in that list?

    Marciano's skills are underrated.

Poor thread, but in answer to the question the least skilled world champion I've seen was Carlos Maussa. There was a video of him trying to work a speedball and failing, missing it and not being able to put any punches together

    The skills of the mentioned:

Marciano: great puncher, great timing, a very underrated crouch defence, skilled bodypuncher

Collins: never liked him, initially a counter puncher though, nicely timed overhand right

Saddler: I agree he isn't the most skilled, he has a nice bolo punch on the inside and short inside punching, hell of a puncher too

Fullmer: not really much of an outboxer but certainly could put it together on the inside

Fullmer dictated the pace inside and outside against Webb really well. Through awkwardness admittedly.

I think Fullmer, despite looking clumsy and technically off, boxes comfortably at any range.

Surely this guy has to be mentioned in any thread like this.

Great success in his career of course, but based purely on outworking turds and has-beens via wild windmill slap attacks.

The punching technique on display in the videos is an affront to public dignity.

I got a kick out of seeing how many of the better sluggers at this Olympics were using the Benes style.Big Cammarelle in the final against Joshua :yep

btw some people taking this thread the wrong way, it was a tongue in cheek (but still worth serious discussion)counterpoint to the "most skilled" threads.I rate all these guys highly, great natural fighters, which the sport is all about on it's most basic level.I'm just comfortable enough in my analysis not to feel the need to make them out to be more than they are technically.;)

That Ukranian light welter finalist was channeling both Benes and Moon in his slugging assault I thought!
