RIP Michael. One of the more talented heavies of the last 30 years that fell to the partying ways of the 80s.
Ken Norton mentioned him in an article just the other day and he did mention Dokes was battling for his life. RIP.
Could have been so much more, imagine him against Holmes, Norton and others. To bad drugs took over, what a talent! Even with his lifestyle mistakes accomplished so much.
Booze, drugs and a violent relationship with his "companion" which re-arranged her face.A sad ending to a throw away career.
Wow really? I couldn't imagine Dokes doing this.. ..This is the same Michael Dokes who represented himself as a gentleman before each of his fights, throwing roses at the female fans in attendance.
I remember when Michael Dokes first started as a professional. His 'gimmick' was to throw 'Roses' from the ring, to the women sitting at ringside. A good guy. This content is protected
"After he was arrested and charged with beating and confining his then-live-in girlfriend for more than six hours in August 1998 -- police at the time said the woman's nose, eye socket and jaw were broken -- Dokes told the court he had no money to pay for his defense. He was given the services of a Clark County deputy public defender who worked out a plea bargain with prosecutors. Dokes pleaded guilty to second-degree kidnapping, attempted murder and battery with intent to commit sexual assault. In exchange, he avoided charges that he sexually assaulted the woman after the beating -- charges that would have carried a mandatory life prison term had he been convicted."
you would be surprised by what women can drive good men into. i don't know his personality but some women deserve it.
