Why does ODLH have the reputation that Shane Mosley deserves?

On here people frequently say "Oscar lost his biggest fights".

    On paper,

Oscar won the following 'big fights' - Whitaker, Vargas, Quartey, Chavez 1 (one could argue that Genaro Hernandez was a big fight as well perhaps)

Oscar lost the following 'big fights' - Trinidad, Mosley(2), Hopkins, Mayweather, Pacquiao

(you'd have to excuse him for the latter three losses though surely, as Hopkins was so much bigger, and ODLH was years past his best by the time he went in with Mayweather & Pacquiao)

So, the big fight record is not bad at all on paper.

    ---

By my cards, Oscar won the Tito fight and the second Mosley fight, and lost the Whitaker & Quartey fights, so he still didn't "lose his biggest fights" either way.

    ---

IMO, Shane Mosley's big fight record is clearly worse.

Wins - Oscar 1 (legit), Oscar 2 (clearly lost the fight), Margarito (presume legit, but Margo surely can't have been at his best after getting caught with the wraps)

Losses - Forrest(2), Winky(2), Cotto, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Canelo

(you'd have to excuse the losses to Mayweather, Pacquiao and Canelo, as SSM was done by then)

By my card Mosley lost the 2nd Oscar fight big, and all of his losses were fairly clear (unlike ODLH), so that leaves Shane's big fight record as 2 (Oscar 1, Marg) wins and 6 losses (Forrest x2, Wink x2, ODLH II, Cotto).

IMO, Mosley is more deserving of the 'big fight loser' rep than Oscar is. :bbb

They're both in the same category.

You are kind of ignoring Mosley's entire lightweight career. What about Phillip Holliday etc?

Dumb thread. If anything, Mosley doesn't get the respect he deserves.

    both legends! stop dissecting.

ODLH - fought pretty much everyone he could. He was the golden boy! Now he is a bit of a lady boy but besides the point!

SSM - wanted to fight everybody and and most people avoided him! until the end of what was a magnificent career.

BOTH HOF's. at least they was in the BIG fights to lose. unlike some modern legends!

Rafael Ruelas was the reiging IBF lightweight champion. Ruelas may not be a hall of famer, but He was a an outstanding boxer during his time.

When guys are consistently in big fights, they are bound to lose a few. Most people consider SSM's prime to be his lightweight days, so he gets a bit of a pass for losing to bigger fighters.

It hurts me that one of my faves (Mosley) would cheat against his buddy and my other fave (Oscar) in their fight. :verysad

Can't really hold the Pac fights against either of them as they were CLEARLY done by that point.

I CLEARLY already said that in the opening post. Wouldn't hold the Pac or Mayweather fights against either of them.

 Yeah coz Shane didn't enjoy huge weight and size advantages over the mediocrities and oldsters he was beating up at lightweight.

Mosley has the kind of unassertive persona that naturally leads to being overlooked. While Oscar was the media's girlfriend and was careful not to cause any waves either, he had a great story to begin his career with and built himself up with it.
