not really sure if its true, ive seen some people say it around here. 3rd biggest ppv attraction he got quite a large number for his fight against margarito. What is it about him that made him so popular? He's probably 17-15 on p4p list. Entertaining style? A lot of puerto rican fans? Usually the top 3 guys get the most ppv for being the top 3 especially if there style isnt horrid to watch or they have somewhat a personality. I enjoy watching cotto fight, real humble guy but there isnt much to his personality after that that catches attention to the casual fan.

What makes him the third biggest name? He always packs the house and gets the third biggest ratings.

Why is that? Combination of exciting style, level of machismo that appeals to fight fans, hardcore Puerto Rican fan base who will always make sure he does well and the fact that he's faced a lot of big name opponents.

Canelo and JCC Jr. are getting close though, and Broner is sneaking up there too. On a worldwide basis, I'd say Cotto is actually 4th, behind Wlad as well.

You really had to throw Broner in the mix?:rofl How many PPVs does Broner have to date?

None, but he's done crazy good ratings on HBO, and people who don't follow boxing are starting to know who he is because of his antics. Trust me, I don't like Broner, but he's becoming a big name. Much more so than guys like Andre Ward or Nonito Donaire or Sergio Martinez or Chad Dawson or other guys who actually deserve it.

Besides, how many major PPVs has anyone else headlined? Name me a PPV that got more than 100k buys that wasn't headlined by Pacquiao, Mayweather or Cotto in the last three years. I sure as hell can't think of any. JMM couldn't drive PPV sales, and they've tried that twice. Donaire couldn't and they've tried that twice too. Both Hopkins PPVs were ginormous flops. Morales wasn't able to carry a PPV. Chavez, sadly enough, has broken 100k. Canelo still has yet to headline a PPV and I don't see you complaining that I mentioned him.

Cotto is a true people's champion. He's a respectful, respectable guy who always takes on top notch competition and shows up ready to fight. His fights against Judah, Mosley, Margarito, and Mayweather were all exciting. The first four rounds against Pac were incredible.

People feel like they get their money's worth when they order a Cotto fight. You can't really say that about the bulk of Mayweather's fights, none of Wlad's, nor Pac's for the last couple of years (since he fought Cotto).

For the record: I can't believe people would actually pay to watch a Wlad fight on tv.

He's good but not good enough to not have eventful fights. My belief is that people like to see competitive fights. Cotto(e) with his skill set provides this. How often does he win as easily as a Mayweather? Miguel Cotto(e) is always facing some sort of crisis like a comic character.

Judah killed him with the uppers and forced him to resort to lowblows.
People got to see how far he can drive with the gas light on against Mosley.
margo(e) opened up his paper face and people were on the edges of their seats wondering if Cotto(e) can survive this?
Cotto(e) once again resorted to some dirty crap against Clottey.
emmanroid put him down and the question once again was can he survive this?

Depends from area to area, around here Cotto is far behind Marquez, Pac, May, Canelo, Mosley, Hopkins, and Chavez Jr, right next to Margarito.

He fought all the biggest threats when the Welter division was on fire (bar Williams), he always comes to fight, never in a dull fight, humble, respectful and a classy guy.

He's also fortunate enough to be in some very eventful fights solely due to his opponents.

Yuri's busted knee is a once in a lifetime thing for a boxing fan. Not everyone had the privilege to face Mayorga.
