Hey guys, just wondering if there are any good amateur boxing trainers around in Sydney that can teach the fundementals of the boxing. I just missed out on going to the olympics in london. Recently moved to sydney, leaving near the city. Planning to go to the next olympics and looking for the right coach and team, Most gyms that I have been so far, the coaches have limited knowledge and not willing to teach you anything. It would be great if anyone can help. Thanks
you're better of taking up sailing, theres more money, more travel, less chance of damage & the gold medal prospects are far higher
if ya close too seven hill in western sydney FCC might be a decent place too try out my mate Rodney is a great trainer and hes apart of the ABA hes got a stable of really good amatuers
Good you're a sap. Did you know not everyone endeavours in sports to earn money? Some people actually really enjoy doing it. Why do you bother posting on every boxing thread? Sailing is for rich nancy boy poofters. :hey
Well if the kid wants to go to the olympics i thought it was my duty to inform him that sailing is a better chance of success  Why would someone do boxing not to earn money?? getting punched for the enjoyment of the sport?? it was evident that pretty much all the olympic boxers we sent were just going through the motions trying to get a leg up into a pro career, they couldnt wait to jump ship as soon as they were beaten
Same reason why people play Rugby League, you've supposedly played, ever get injured? Did you go back to the game afterwards? What's the difference, sport is sport. What is your point? I'm sure there is a better medal chance at Sailing as well, Australia doesn't have the best Boxing trainers, far from it. But we can still be competitive, and at least compete. If you are selected it's on your own merit not on a chance wind. :deal
Thanks everyone's for the response, those gyms that were mentioned might be a bit to far, as i'm based in the city. I've already been to woolloomooloo pcyc, mundines gym in Redfern, and Sydney Uni boxing gym, but there doesnt seem to be any good trainers with fundemental knowledge of boxing. I understand why people turn pro quickly here, but at the same time your better off learning the fundementals before you turn pro, thats why the pro boxers in Aus are not as good compared back in the days when Mundine's father use to fight. Its a shame that boxing coaches here are to lazy and they dont want to teach basics, instead they let you jump straight in the ring without even teaching fighters how to use there feet, movement and defense. I'm going to keep looking for a good trainer... if i cant find any looks like I wil take up sailing after all
Try Istvan Solyom, Euro School of Boxing at Maroubra PCYC (in Daceyville). He is Hungarian and a former European Light Heavyweight Amateur Champion.
