You could say Harry Scott from Liverpool. He fought plenty of top men in the 60's and 70's, and gave them a fight, even won 1 out 2 with Rubin Carter.

Buster Drayton was considered a journeyman until he came over to England and knocked out 2 of our prospects, Jimmy Cable and Mark Kaylor. He went onto better things from there and then did I suppose become a good journeyman. Interesting, I just took a quick look at his record and there was some good names on it from earlier than the English fights, Sumbu Kalambay, Duane Thomas and Lindell Holmes to name three that hadn't yet become well known.

On the same bill Kaylor lost to Drayton; Frank Bruno lost to another American 'Journeyman': James 'Bonecrusher' Smith.

Lawless must of been on the verge of slashing his wrist that night!

:lol: Reminds of the time Terry Downes was knocked out by a journeyman called Dick Tiger. At the postfight interview Downes wsas asked who his next fight was gonna be against. He replied "against the $%&/@ who made that match".

Johnny Bratton was NOT a journeyman...He was a great flashy fighter who fought in a great WW era and suffered from a defective structure of his jaw leading to constant fractures...Yes Ralph Tiger Jones was a journeyman in HIS day, but would be a topnotch MW today...Jones kicked the hell out of Ray Robinson in 1955 after all...

If they were world class, then by definition they were not journeymen.

emanuel augustus is a journyman, but his skills in the ring are top 10 p4p, he just wasnt consistant, got rough descisions, and was always in the other guys home town. i think the op was more incline to the gatekeeper type of journymen, not the david jaco, steve zouski, bobby crabtree guys. jesse ferguson, everett martin and bert cooper all had geat great skills, they were not journeymen and they were not contenders. but they were world class.

Jersey Joe Walcott for most of his career was considered a journeyman, simply the best journeyman ever though. What is a journeyman, someone who fights for money, takes on all comers and will travel anywhere for a fight, this is a description that fits Jersey Joe.

You can't be a world class journeyman, but in terms of journeymen who had world class skills, there is no better example than Emmanuel Augustus.
