Real interested to see how this plays out. Both real great counter punchers, although Marquez was more known for his offense and Whitaker with defense. Could Marquez be able to handle a real slickster like Whitaker with his boxing skills?

I know people will say that Whitaker might beat Marquez the same way Mayweather did, but Whitaker won't have the size and reach advantage so I'm sure Marquez could do a lot better than people think.

Marquez doesn't handle speed very well.

It's a close fight, but I don't think Marquez wins more than a handful of rounds.

    Whitaker UD Marquez

Marquez is one of my favorites and I must say I find him completely overmatched here....Perhaps this is the difference between being a great fighter and an ATG elite???? I just don't see anyway he wins this fight and find it equally hard to say it would be close...Pea by 10-2 type decision.

If Ramirez, Pendleton, Mayweather, and Nelson can win more than 2 rounds on the cards, so can Marquez.

It couldn't be any worse than those.

Can I take it that you rate or think more highly of JMM than you do of Azumah??? or is it just the 135 thing?

Not necessarily, although Nelson was smaller naturally and at the lightweight limit, I would probably consider them equal, if not Marquez being more effective (better) at the weight.

I could be swayed with evidence, but I just believe Marquez wouldn't do any worse than the ones I mentioned.

I love both of these fighters and I might lean towards Sweet Pea but don't get it twisted folks. It ain't gonna be no walk in the park. JMM is one of the best counter punchers and technicians in this generation. With size being equal, JMM would give anybody a go at 135lbs.

Bad style match-up for Marquez, but JMM can compete evenly with anyone within his weight class. It would be a question of who is forced to lead; I think by the time JMM figured him out, he'd be too far behind on the cards, though he may do better in a rematch.

If you consider the fights with the above fighters close, then I agree, Whitaker wins a 'close' decision :good

Marquez is usually regarded as being more skilled than Ramirez and I think that Ramirez deserved d verdict over Whitaker twice so Marquez would have deserved d victory but d judges / posters here would have somehow claimed that it was Whitaker .

It would be a domination. Pea would dominate Pacqiuao and Floyd in the same fashion. He's levels above all three.
