Well ESB has already compiled a list of who the top 10 are in each of the 8 original weight classes. I wanted to look at the so called ******* divisions and see who others felt the best were in those divisions. Who would you rate as the top 10 Cruiserweights ever? Please refrain from including those who fought in the past around that weight prior to the developing of this weight class (ie Dempsey, Marciano etc), and keep it just to those who have fought in this officially recognized division. Starting with Marvin Camel who won the first recognized cruiserweight title (as far as i know) in 1980 through today. Who are the top 10 cruisers?
Going by PhillyFan69's requirements of induction : 1. Evander Holyfield 2. James Toney 3. Muhammad Qawi 4. O'neil Bell 5. David Haye 6. Johnny Nelson 7. Alfred Cole 8. James Warring 9. Nate Miller 10. Orlin Norris
I thought you would have had norris a little higher...any reason for the exclussion ofCcyz? and no big deal but its Phan not fan! its a Philly thing!
I thought it was Phan but then i thought that i was wrong . Who did Czyz beat/stop @ d weight ? I'd rather have Ocassio . Norris had 2 stoppage losses @ d weight : Cooper & Miller and going by his record he was not that destructive @ d weight 2 make up 4 it 2b included much higher than i had him .
1. Evander Holyfield. 2. Dwight Braxton/Qawi 3. James Tony 4. Vasily Jirov 5. Carlos Deleon 6. Tomas Ademek 7. Steve Cunningham 8. Alfed Cole 9. Orlin Norris 10. O'neil Bell
As good as Gomez looked, he didn't fight the best fighters. He's a top 10 talent, but he didn't challenge himself. Hell, he fooled everyone into thinking he deserved a heavyweight championship challenge.
What is 'offically recognized', as at least one 'alphabet organization' does not have a 'cruiserweight' division. You say start with Camel but 'Cruiserweight' was coined in the early 20th century and do you consider Qawi's, Holyfield's et al work as 'Junior Heavyweights'?
He had no business in the ring with Vitalis. This is about the cruiserweight division, though. He's one of the most naturally talented fighters there. It would have been nice for him to try to make some noise and challenge some other champion. He held the title hostage over in Germany. Yes, he should be in the top ten, but his opposition keeps him out of mine.
Again i'm not confident in this really. Infact I'm not gonna go beyond my top 3: Holyfield Haye De Leon. Probably Qawi, gomez figure in there somewhere. Adamek, Cunningham maybe as well. I've not looked in enough detail.
How did he earn his shot, by getting knocked out in one round by an unranked fighter? He didn't deserve his shot.
This thing about earning shots completely goes against the reality. A fighter can secure a good championship payday by getting a mandatory position. To do that you play the organisation game. Gomez worked his way into a mandatory position. Sure he could have took on the top ten and hoped for a voluntary shot, but boxing is a business. Will he go down as a hw great? No. Is he the most worthy of wbc contenders? No. But did he earn his shot? Absolutely.
The Glory Division 1. Magne Haavna 2. James Warring 3. Bash Ali 4. Saul Montana 5 . Marvin Camel 6. Kenny Keene 7. Tyrone Booze 8. Glen McCrory 9. Terry Dunstan 10. Saul Montana
