  1. At first glance, I'm for it, and even mildly excited about the possibilities. However... there are flaws that I'm wary of.

Lomachenko isn't going to sign with the APB, I can almost guarantee it. They signed offers of intent, Lomachenko's father has said that unless Vasyl will be able to fight any pro fighter they won't even think about signing with the APB. They weren't happy with the scoring at the Olympics and I don't believe Vasyl has any desire to stay around for a 3rd Olympics, you could see how nonchalant he was about winning gold in London.

The APB and Dr.Wu wants to be the sole world governing body for pro boxing (which would be a nightmare) and are using the Olympics as leverage to coerce fighters to fight in APB.

    1) Professionals are either allowed to compete in a given sport at the Olymipics or they aren't (figure skating, NHL Hockey, NBA Basketball, etc) Dr. Wu using his position as president of AIBA to create his own "pro boxing" and trying to force boxers to sign with APB by only allowing "his" professionals to compete in the Olympics seems outright corrupt.

    2) Established pro boxing should do the exact same thing with legit world titles being their leverage. Any fighter who fights in APB will be banned for life from fighting for a WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF World Championship belt. That would be the exact same thing that APB is doing.

No. Starting next year, no more headgear under amateur rules.

This move will backfire for the AIBA. Instead of having top pros "go amateur", they'll just have some guys who would stay amateur go pro for a few fights before competing in the Olympics again. I can totally see Lonachenko doing that.

**** move which will destroy the prospects of producing top class young talent and giving them the neccesary grounding in the sport.

    **** move.

Thread starter swinger obviously knows sweet **** all bout amateur boxing, AIBA & Dr Wu,

Like many others have said absolutely no top professional will take a year outta their careers to box in the Olympics. You must be absolutely high if you think boxers like Donaire, Ward or Broner would forfeit their titles to box for a **** AIBA salary

I actually hope this plan goes ahead & fails miserably so Wu & all his corrupt cronies get kicked outta the IOC & AIBA gets completely re-structured

Can't expect any high level pro to do this, they're looking at money and this won't bring in the same money. Can't get hyped for this until I hear more about it and understand it further.

not really , some guys take rounds to get going, after over a decade as a pro they would have a lot of disadvantages , from point system to different fight pace etc etc etc

the boxing format they are considering is pretty murky though. at least they are trying. the olympics should be about the best, not money. money or amatureism is gone from the modern games. boxing needs to find a way to get its best in there and help raise the profile of the sport. they could undo a lot of the damage the alphabet boys have done to the sport.

1 champ in each division every 4 years. that sounds sensible to me.
