Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Deontay "The Bronze Bomber" Wilder, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., has been called "No. 1...among the American heavyweights," and, "the best heavyweight prospect for winning the heavyweight title," by the reknowned Manny Steward, who trains RING champion and IBF, WBA and WBO beltholder Wladimir Klitschko. But even before Wilder's sensational, first-round stoppage of Trinidad and Tobago's Kertson "The Warrior" Manswell (22-7, 17 knockouts) on Aug. 4, Steward called for the handlers of the 26-year-old 2008 Olympic bronze medalist to put him in against stiffer competition. "He's got to get away from fights like that. Forget about the record," said Steward of the 6-foot-7 Wilder, who dropped Manswll three times in 2 minutes and 20 seconds on the way to his 24th knockout in as many fights. "He's got to start fighting some real fighters, and when he does, you know what? He'll beat them. So I think that the best heavyweight prospect for winning the heavyweight title is Deontay Wilder." Now Wilder's promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, is saying the same thing. "The plans are that it's time to step him up. It's time to take him to the big stage -- the HBOs and the Showtimes," said De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. "It's time to unleash Deontay Wilder, and he will be a serious, serious threat to the heavyweight division." oscar's been a cheap dime store joke since he started stepping up his promotions - half the **** that comes out of his mouth is insincere and it gives no credit to people who follow the sport $$$ he'll fit right in.....
oscar knows this guy cant fight a lick...but if your job is to lie every day like a promoters job is...it comes with the territory
you can still promote a guy without being shameless about what you say to the people who made him a rich man to begin with
i agree...but only difference is, this guy is that bad...and DLH was a big deal in the amateurs and winning gold got him rich before his first fight... DLH made every promoters job easy, there was no promoting him so to speak, when you sign deals on HBO back then, they are your biggest promoters. Wilder just made it to tv recently and not even sure if its an english channel
It is most definitely time to step up. The way he looked in beating Maswell, shows it time for the David Rodriguezs and ARreola level now. Next up maybe Byarm and Jennings. Then Stiverene and Mitchell.
Means Oscar's happy to cash in. Wilder gets knocked out by the first guy he fights, who's capable of taking a shot, and punching back.
