Ability-wise, is it wrong to consider Wilfredo Gomez one of the top 10 fighters ever?

His chin was the only attribute average/decent......All the rest was at least very good.
Jab, power, infighting skills, body punches.... one of the most complete fighters ever......

I'd add movement as some of the slickest I've seen, at least before about '82.

I can't think of another fighter that is so unanimously revered in any given weight class.

If you ask anyone who knows their ass from their elbow about boxing who the best 122lb'er ever is, the answer is invariably: GOMEZ.

Think about that. Ali is generally gets the most votes for being the greatest HW ever especially in terms of h2h. There's always an argument to challenge that assertion, and those arguments can be valid. Ali was beatable.

Same for MW, LW, WW (maybe)... There's always someone you could make a case to be beaten.... Gomez is the hardest case to build a case for.

What other weight class hosts a fighter that is without equal? To make an argument against Gomez taking every scalp ever at 122 is an exercise in futility, if you're honest and knowledgeable, or in non-conformitarianism (which is a word I just made up that makes alot of sense after a couple beers)...

Don't get sassy... But okay, I hadn't thought of that.

Think of another and I'll admit my statement was a exaggeration and a false statement...

Maybe well-roundedness is a better term? He is certainly an ATG in terms of doing everything very good.

You sons of bitches! You're destroying my point!

I will counter that Holyfield at Cruiserweight argument with the former 190lb limit, and say I can make a case for a handful of fighters who could make that weight and make it interesting...

Okay, and Jones is a good shout as well... If you count 168 as a legitimate division... Is that the youngest division? If so, I reserve the right to throw it out. I could think of those fighters who could have made that weight as well, like Charles, who I'm sure could have made the weight at some point when he was hot....

    Okay. You got me.

Gomez was a badass and is clearly the best at 122lbs ever. He's in an exclusive club, even if he has to share that distinction.

The Super Bantamweight came into existence in 1976...with Gomez winning the title in 1977.

Some say the Division was basically created for Gomez...with no really true great Super bantamweight challengers available at the time.

I was just ****ing around  Minimum weight is such a bare wasteland of a division my comment was more of a joke than anything, even if contains some truth.
