The "Ali Shuffle" was actually originated by the great Jersey Joe Walcott. If you watch some of Walcott's fights, he does a shuffle that is very reminiscent of the shuffle that Muhammad Ali made famous but the difference was that Walcott invented it while Ali popularized it. The great trainer of Ali, Angelo Dundee has stated that Ali adapted much of his style from Jersey Joe and the shuffle was something that Ali picked up from watching tape on Walcott and made it his own.

What do you rate the Ali Shuffle in terms of Skill to pull it off? I've never seen another Heavyweight pull this Technique off (save SRL) successfully as a means of gaining an advantage over their opponent. :think

    Very hard...

He used to use it then throw a decent punch straight after it

Would take a good few months of practising to master it..

and then to use it in a boxing match and throw a punch it hit your opponent is a different story

    Isn't it very inefficient?
It also means if an opponent is smart that he knows a shot is coming and he can just go retreat.

Sal Sanchez did it on occasion and very good at it too. Patrick Ford thought he could show Sal then Sal ends up schooling him on how to do the shuffle. Crowd went wild and loved it very funny moment. Sanchez having some of the best footwork ever might of helped.

It was against Hopkins. Hopkins started feeling himself and tried to do the shuffle, then Trinidad did it. Pretty well too...

Jones does a mini version of the shuffle. Leonard combined the shuffle and the bolo along with various other showboat techniques (so does Jones in his own way)
